New (to me) Thorens td-124

Many of the parts on a TD-124 are cadmium plated.
Yes, it's true, but it's generally linkage that's cadmium plated. It's suppose to help with what's known as a stick-slip with sliding surfaces. The white residue in the OP's pictures however, is mostly evident inside the motor. The top/bottom housing covers are stainless steel. Maybe the rotor is alu (dunno). I'm inclined to think the white stuff is aluminum oxidation.

Could you re-post the pic with the residue? I'm not sure I'm looking at the same thing you guys are. Is it in the bushing? Or the motor shaft? Or on the outside of the motorshaft near the coils? Still learning terminology so forgive me if I use the wrong word occasionally for all these parts :)

^ it's your pictures. Look here. Yup, it's in the motor bushings too, but some flakes got to the spindle bearing well.

What I saw was in the motor bushing, white spec’s

I would guess the flakes in the spindle bearing are from me wiping down the top with a rag. I'll blow it out and make sure there is nothing in it.

I thought everybody was talking about the motor bushing which does look like it has little spider eggs or something in the picture. I didn't see those in person with a magnifying glass so I think the flash makes it look white.

There was flaky white stuff inside the cover around the edges near the coils. At the time it reminded me of salt accumulation on windows or something near the ocean. That's the only loose "flaky" stuff I've found anywhere. I cleaned it up with a cotton swap making sure not to drop it into any moving parts. Other than that the only place I've seen corrosion is on the linkage connecting the switch to the pulley/idler. There is basically no plating left and it had started to rust. There wasn't even dust when I first opened it it just looks like bare metal and some surface rust.

Before and after cleaning face plate. I'm not sure the pictures do the change justice. It looked old and well used before and now looks old and lightly used. I stayed away from the middle underneath the platter for now.

It's looking good! I'm not sure 'faceplate' would be all of that. It looks like the entire chassis or the 'deck'. Good job! I'm guessing the 'faceplate' would be that riveted aluminum badge under the speed control knob, better described as an id plate? No? Just me?

Ha. Yeah I knew faceplate felt wrong. Deck is better.

Anybody know if these are early aftermarket "feet"? I doubt they are oem? Not keeping them either way but curious.

Looking good, amazing what a little time and effort will do:thumbsup: They have very clean design lines, almost understated, gonna make one heck of a table…

Tom or some who uses an original plinth might be able to answer your question about the feet.

Does anybody know a source for these knobs and the ... set screw? The screw came to me bent. The knob is a victim of cleaning it near the sink while my wife did dishes :( Learning all kinds of lessons with this one.
