I'm in the middle of trying to make something good out of their stablemate, the Advent 1008 "Graduate" (same drivers I believe). Got them for $20.00, needing refoam (in process) and I'm also trying recapping while I'm at it. Too soon to tell about final results, but they were not impressive in the form I got them, even the one with sort-of intact foam. Sounded small and flat, but I have hopes....

OK, got the glue dry enough to test one of my Graduates. Now I think they are damn fine speakers. The recapping in particular, it seems, poured life into them.

I also think I need to recap my EPI's.

Bottom line--go for the Legacies if you're prepared to do a bit of work on them....

I feel bad. I saw a pair in great condition with no foam surround on the woofer, but they played fine. they were 15 dollars. Local Thrift store. I'm angry I didn't buy them.

I wish to amend my earlier post that gave huge credit to recapping for the improvement to the Advent Graduates I've got.

Right now I've got new surrounds on both, but only one has been recapped. I've got them both hooked up, and I've been comparing. I'd say now that upwards of 80% of the improvement in this case is due to fixing the surrounds.

There is a noticable improvement in clarity and tonality, esp with highs and with complex psssages, with the recapped speaker. But not an obviously noticable improvement.
