I have a setup including a Nikko Alpha 440 power amplifier and a matching preamp, tuner and equalizer. I have only been using the power amp, but to my ears that's a seriously good-sounding amp. Very powerful, seemed louder than my Kenwood Basic M2 amp, despite both having a claimed 220 WPC output. I like the very thick front panels as well, looks very classy. Not sure about Nikko's cassette decks and receivers, I may be wrong, but they don't seem to be as well built.

I've got Alpha 2 and Alpha 220 power amps, Beta 2 and Beta 20 preamps, Gamma 5, Gamma 1 and Gamma 20 tuners, Eq-1 equalizer and NA-1090 integrated amp. All of them are great units, some better than others (like the Gamma 5 or Alpha 2). There is thread with Nikko pics here http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=64784. A favorite brand of mine, especially the Alpha/Beta/Gamma series of seperates which are right up there with the best non loony stuff (especially the Gamma Tuners, though the amps will embarass a lot of the competition also). And the recievers of the XX19 series are possibly the handsomest recievers anyone ever made, to my eye (the Sansui 9090's feelings are hurt...), and are sensitive and sound good too. Their integrateds and tuners are attractive and solid also.
Keep in mind, though, that they have been out of the market for years and were never a major player, so repairs may be more complicated than for the better known brands (but prices are lower because Nikkos are less well known, so it may even out).

Had a Nikko NR-1015 receiver and wish I still had it. The sonics of that receiver was AMAZING! It had both high & low filters and a button to boost the frequency of the radio. Nikko made some great stuff back in the day.

I heard an NR-719 receiver (35wpc at 8 ohms?) with some JBL L-36's and it was a decent system (poor matching, IMO) but other than that, really no experiences with Nikko.

I’ve been a huge fan of Nikko since buying an NA-690 integrated amp and NT-790 tuner from Appletree Stereo in Normal, Illinois (home of Illinois State University) back in 1979/1980. They sounded wonderful with my old ADS L400’s, which I purchased right across the street from Appletree at Glenn Poor’s Audio Video. Ah, those were the days! I still own and enjoy vintage Nikko gear to this day – here in my office I have a pristine NA-890 amp, NT-890 tuner, and Graphic Equalizer EQ II paired up with a Yamaha cassette deck, a Yamaha CD player, and a Teac A2340R reel to reel. IMO, Nikko amps and tuners were some of the best looking and best sounding gear for the money that was available during the golden years. Now if I can just convince my sister in law to return those ADS L400’s that I gave her back in 1993 …
All you'd have to do is search AK and you'd have seen many similar comments. They made some mediocre stuff and some great stuff.
