Nikko Owners--Show us your stuff!

So how does the Alpha III compare to the MC240?

Recently acquired this set off Craigslist, Spokane for $120, never heard of Nikko, so did some research. Needed to prove to my mother-in-law that the Bozak B-305 Moorish, McIntosh C22, MR71, Technics SL1200 MKII, TEAC X-1000R didn't need the MC240 to be driven.
The Alpha III actually sounds quite good in the system, I'm impressed, the Bozak B-305 are pretty efficient at 16Ohms, so basically anything could drive them.
I need knobs for the Beta III, anyone have any ideas on good replacement knobs?

Nikko NR-815 Awesome!

I bought a Nikko NR-815 from some folks selling a bunch of old electronic items and I had to keep this mint condition Nikko NR-815, I couldn't believe the conditionit was in considering its' age! I was familiar with the brand name as I am a flower child from the 70's and this amp rocks! It is a bit more mellow sounding but there is not one bit of static in control knobs and the cosmetics are awesome! My only problem is, I am looking for a Sony STR-7065 and probably when I find one, I will unload the Nikko, can't affordt to keep both. lol Hope my pics come out ok.

That is a sweet tuner! I'm looking to replace by black-faced unit by a silver one, to match my Beta II and Alpha II silver-faced pair, which are the basis of my bedroom system.

I use a NIKKO BETA 40 Preamp and a NIKKO GAMMA 40 Tuner and I also have a NIKKO GAMMA 30 Tuner and an extra NIKKO BETA 40 Preamp.

Out with the new ...

... and in with the old - or at least, vintage.

Replaced my Onkyo TX8555 (left photo, middle shelf) with (right photo middle shelf) EQ 25, Beta 30, Gamma 30, and (bottom shelf) Alpha 230. Made the switch Friday night, listened all weekend, and drove to work with a smile on my face Monday morning.

Just have to finish the speaker upgrade...

Yes you are correct, lets call it figuratively speaking!

I have sent my Main amp off for a ½ life rebuild (it is about 25 years old) and spent the weekend playing with a valve amp, connected up to a pre amp, and hooked up the Sansui MA-7 VU meters to that lot and a CD player and a decent pair of speakers.
Then played a pile of music all weekend that sounded excellent yet completely different to my normal Main amp.
It’s like having a whole new library to listen to yet it’s the same music.

I come from a family of 6 kids, only 2 of us enjoy HiFi and 4 cannot tell the difference between a clock radio and a decent HiFi, I have always felt sorry for them and yet they have always felt sorry for my affliction! :D

I will post mine tonight (sorry I am at work) :D I have:

Nikko Alpha-220
Nikko Beta-20
Nikko Gamma-20
Nikko Eq-20

I replaced the speaker connectors on mine with 5-way binding posts from Dayton. Currently have mine packed away! Does anyone have any analog power amps like the Alpha-II or better yet the one I am searching for the Alpha-650?

I really feel these are truly under the radar vintage gear!

Yank

Love the Nikko gear. Looks great and holds it's own against anything else I've heard.:music::music:

Here are the Asti Pacific Nikko items from my collection. Never had the 600's or 800's. But the Alpha 2000 is the rarest of any Nikko made; in my opinion. This was a great find and had been sitting in the previous owners closet for the last 18 years or so.

That's a very nice score you made.

Got the little Nikko Gamma 1 set up over the weekend, have been in the same house 12 years and always thought we had 6 FM stations, not so according to the NG1 - 13 stations crisp and clear! Very Impressive.
The meter display globes were blown 8V .3amp incandescent, went up to the local parts store, no longer available, settled for a couple of white 12 v LED’s of the same dimension and put them in, got a very light blue light on the meters not sure if that is correct would be interested to see what others have. Anyway I took them back out and wrapped the globes in a bit of yellow cellophane and put them back in, the meters now have that very warm 70's soft yellow glow. (I am sure the cellophane will be ok as the LED’s don't generate heat).
I am very impressed with the all round performance of this tuner, It sounds like a high quality recorded CD on a high quality CD player, with a bonus extra 6 stations thrown in :)

Here's my Alpha III, a very smooth-sounding and stout amp. I also have a TRM-750 integrated. No pictures of it, but it looks just like the others posted earlier in this thread. The Alpha III is a daily driver, the TRM-750 occasionally gets used as a preamp but it really needs rehabbed. I'm keeping my eye out for a Beta preamp to go with the Alpha III.

My first Nikko's :D

Recently picked up a Beta 40 Preamp & a Gamma 20 tuner in very nice shape at a very nice price.

It has 2 phono outputs, one with selectable capacitance with gold plated outputs.

This weekend I want to try the preamp in my main system to see how it compares to my C70 Yamaha.

The build quality & feel of the controls are impressive.

I paid $65 for my STR-1219 (100 wpc) at a garage sale in April. A little beat up on the left corner and one or two bulbs are out, but it sounds great and everything works. Pics and info at the link below.
My first Nikko score
