Yes. In Germany we have a rating system for classic cars from 1 to 5. 1 means as new or better. Aunties 280SL is 2 which currently means about 60000 euros.
I'm pretty sure that cars like the BMW 3 series have always been aimed at a different market than the "60 year old European lawyer or dentist."

The 330/365 GTC were affordable in the early to mid 90's but prices has gone up. For me it's style is low key by Ferrari standards and I like them because of this .
I used to dabble in E30 M3's but my divorce did away with that hobby.
Was in Paris a couple years ago and spied this beauty just parked along the street. It was a nice neighborhood but please? Just parked along the curb?

Yep, panache is a good word. And that sound was only bested by the wonderfully voiced 12 cylinder italian cars.

I agree was able to drive an E30 , it's like a sports car w/ a back seat . Same character as my E24 . When I drove my Mercedes 450SL it felt ponderous & this was suppose to be their sport car/ roadster .

An E24 is a lovely car but was always heavy compared to an E30. Even the E28 M5 was a better driver's car than the E24 M635CSi. But, like an Italian car, we'll accept a lot of weakness if the cars are simply beautiful!
There are damn few "sports cars" that can come close the the handling and overall driving experience of an E30 M3. There's never been anything like it and probably never will be. I'll never forget the first one we got off the truck and my drive home in it that evening. What an eye-opening experience!
I kind of wish it had box flares, but my 318iC has an M3 front suspension and the even more stout rear suspension that came stock on the iC series.

I think the only car that came close to the performance of the E30 M3 was the Mercedes Benz 190 E 2.5 16 EVO but it was rare and was available only in Europe. The E28 M5 I agree was a better car than the E24 M6 but given the choice I still prefer the M6. Timeless design, Paul Braq got it right the 1st time.

Well Chris, my daily driver for many years has been an e23 BMW and I'm not a lawyer or dentist, just a retired State Forest Superintendent. Also not Eurpoean. lol
That e23 is a 1985 735i for the non BMW types, with 5 speed manual trans and limited slip rear. Never felt like a big car with that manual trans.
My wife drives an e39 - 525 Wagon also with a 5 speed manual trans.
The latest addition is a 1971 Volvo P1800e.

I was at the self serve junk yard over the weekend and spotted some pretty nice Euro iron. I saw a CL600 from the 1990's. This was the TOTL DOHC V12 model. There was a supercharged Jaguar sedan, year 2000, along with the usual 740iL's, and Merc E420's. I remember all these cars when new. It was sort of fun to pick through them but sad because most of them did not have accident damage and were California clean, i,e no rust whatsoever.
