Onkyo M-506 Lights flicker

Hello again!

I have an Onkyo M506. The lights flicker on it (I think it had an electrical surge). It still sounds great but should I be concerned and is it fixable?

Does it flicker even when not playing loudly? This symptom is often caused by a failing power switch.

The only thing that gives me pause is that this model is somewhat unusual, using a DC power supply for all the lamps. I would expect such a setup to exhibit less flicker even if the power switch was going bad. Since this model actually uses two DC supplies in parallel, the most likely single point of failure would be in the wiring and other connections that supply the lamps.

If I had to bet, I would still bet on the power switch, which would indeed be a cause for concern, and should be fixable. It might be hard to find a drop-in replacement for the power switch, but something can usually be improvised. To check this theory, someone who is very comfortable working with household power voltages could temporarily bypass the switch to see if the flickering stops.
