This guy has over 900 feedback and a 100% rating. Also, been a member since 2004 and his history shows he frequently sells high dollar items without issue. Not the infamous Papi Chulo modus operandi.

He has either gone underground or moved location. He was selling on Audiogon at least 18 months ago. He always abandons his account after about 6 to 9 months.

I wouldn't buy anything from a Russian site or seller under any circumstance. The consumer protection laws are almost completely ineffective. You get ripped off, you're on your own.

Reminds me of the seasick sailor or whatever his name was on ebay. Disappeared 2 or 3 years ago.
Everything priced 3 to 4 times the going rate, supposedly he didn't actually have the items but had an overseas (Japan?) source.

The "sailor" has been around much more recently, search most any popular McIntosh amplifier and you'll see plenty of "from Japan" listings, typically from more than one seller using the same photos.

That article might have been accurate when it was written back in 2004 or whenever, but now the seller would be completely screwed due to their putting “mint” in the title. Buyer is unhappy, sends it back at seller’s expense, gets a full refund.

No, the seller eats shipping both ways if it’s not as described. I don’t have to pay customs in the USA—maybe it’s different for you.

Hmm. So if you DO get a SNAD, and aren't hooked by the "pictures are part of the description" trap, and returns are allowed by the seller, ... you still need to pay return shipping and customs fees (shipping back to Japan) per the text in that example.

The point is not to argue about whether there are some examples that could end up with the buyer coming out clean, there are very good examples in this of what to look for in a Japanese seller scam as well as an explanation of why there are so many Japanese amplfiers etc. for sale, ... with the same S/N and photos.
