I didn't link to anything. I don't know what you are referring to. And I consider Pandora interactive streaming whether they do or not. Its not totally random FM-style broadcasting. Its in between that and a MOG-style interaction, but is still customizable enough to act as a replacement for song-by-song interaction for many if not most people.

This is a common misconception regarding the legislation that was submitted to Congress last year. No where in that Bill did it seek to set or specify a royalty rate for internet radio. So when you see actual figures or percentages touted in the press and blogs you should consider them completely arbitrary.
The Internet Radio Fairness Act simply proposed using the 801b standard of the Copyright Act--->the same standard used to set the performance rates that cable and satellite radio pay.

Yikes upon further investigation you are indeed correct about the “posted” Amazon links. At the same time however….so was I.
Upon reading your reply/denial about posting a link in your previous post I must admit I was a tad incensed initially. I clearly remember clicking a link in your post that directed me to a Pink Floyd CD/download. I mean really….why the Hell would I pull a reference about Amazon and iTunes outa thin air responding your comment about negotiating music rights? Trust me…that’s not how I roll mate.
Knowing myself as well as your typical level-headedness, I was convinced that
1. I’m not crazy and
2. Surely JohnVF that I know (with 28K+ AK posts) is not trying to pull a fast one by editing then denying what “he” posted.
Certainly there has to be an explanation; so off I went to investigate.
Here’s what I discovered and why you and I are both right about what was posted. Grumpy and/or a SuperMod that has access to the AK board settings/code/plugins should be able to confirm my findings.
The AK board software (vBulletin) includes a shopping link “feature” provided by Skimwords. Like similar add-ons available for community forums, it will automatically insert links based upon a library of keywords. Now, you may say, “I never notice random links in posts here on AK”. Here’s the deal on that, they only generate & show up in fairly fresh posts AND when you are not logged into the board. When I saw your post referencing “Pink Floyd’s willingness” some time later that eve, I was on my phone and not logged-in to the board. There it was; fairly fresh and clear as day and I clicked it to determine what “you” were referring to. Off I’m swooped to Amazon to purchase Pink Floyd’s - The Wall. Try it yourself. Post something with Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, or internet radio. Log out and look at your post. Poof links magically appear.
As for older posts not showing (logged in or not) keyword links; my best guess is that after a certain amount of time/server TTL refresh, AK auto-runs some sort of script that purges any “unauthorized shopping links”. Poof, they’re not there anymore.
So there you go…..complete and hilariously relevant link irony aside….we were both indeed right.
All this said, I’m sure you, me, and everyone else would agree (especially the Admins) that this “glitch” is definitely a recipe for some completely honest and innocent replies yet positively unintended and potentially incendiary confrontations on AK. :cheers:

Again, no he did not hide that significant morsel of info. He just subtly & "conveniently" dismissed over $1,250 in royalty compensation from Pandora as an insignificant aside.
Given that his main beef/blog headline boldly griped about Pandora's measly $17 check is IMHO cheap shot link bait.
Strange...I've never seen that on AK, though I've seen it elsewhere. No worries.
As for the $17, yes its a bit misleading but I still find it sad that that is all a songwriter gets for a million plays (if they're not the performer as well). But the interent really doesn't pay well for creativity.

Good deal....same here. I'm usually at my desktop rig and perpetually logged in when perusing AK. So that "missing link" was a big WTF surprise.
Yep...the songwriter for better or worse has historically (dating back to the 1640's) and as general rule thumb been the low man on the totem pole money wise. It defies all sensible logic....but as they say, "that's the music business". [sigh]
Yeah, so 17 Pandora bucks. lol It's really more than just a bit misleading when you also consider that Lowery fails to disclose (make transparent) a most important difference between AM/FM's 18,797 spins vs. Pandora 1M listens for the quarter. To the untrained/Joe Blow eye he "equates" a 19K "spin count" from terra radio to Pandora's 1M "listen count" and then.... he oddly and shamelessly revels in the fact that he got $1522 from AM/FM stations "compared" to $17/$42 from Pandora. Seriously? Yes, seriously.
David knows exactly what those numbers and column headers really mean and I can assure you that he understands & counts every last thousandth of a penny on his royalty statements.
So I'm reasonably convinced he made a conscious decision as to which & what he did and did not share with the rest of the novice world. Undisclosed Fact: Had his song 'Low' been "played" on Pandora to the same/equivalent audience size for that quarter (based entirely upon his sheets)....Pandora's overall royalty obligation to his band & label would have been obscenely larger than what terra radio paid him as a group in whole.
My rough math says the performance royalty alone would've been near or above $66,000.
Yet most strangely...I've yet to see him rail against the fact that AM/FM don't pay him a performance royalty like internet radio stations are required to do. Do you see where this is going? And why he may be a bit shy about poking the beloved NABee hive? Hint: with his AM/FM radio plays currently eclipsing his internet radio plays....he's selfishly protecting a very short term bird in his hand.
As for Pink Floyd. To be honest, from what I've experienced & learned the past 15 years regarding this debate, I reckon I'm somewhat obliged to offer "Pink Floyd" some marginal forgiveness over their sensational proclamations of Pandora's pawdry compensation.
Like 98.6% of artists and modern day "journalists", they are simply parroting back what they've been told by their labels/handlers or personally read in the blogosphere. (note: my arbitrary percentage to a warm body temp is intentional)
