It says it will be mostly ambient and instrumental music.Sounds good to me as that was the type of Pink Floyd I always liked.

Wow, time sure passes by quickly - I wouldn't have thought it's already 20 years since the "Pulse" appeared, but indeed...

Greetings from Munich!

Here's the info from Pink Floyd.com:

"Pink Floyd can confirm that they are releasing a new album, The Endless River, in October 2014. It is an album of mainly ambient and instrumental music based on the 1993/4 Division Bell sessions which feature David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright. The album is produced by David Gilmour with Phil Manzanera, Youth and recording engineer Andy Jackson. Work is still in progress, but more details to come at the end of the summer."

I'll be avoiding.

I'm up for it! The Division Bell was a surprise for me - a lot stronger material than I was expecting. So anything from that same period is at least worth a listen IMO.

LOL. "No George Washington as president means no United States!" ;)

Things change, and while I like Roger's input I try to take the music they make for what it is, rather than for what it isn't. Roger has been out of the band longer than he was in it. Pink Floyd made good music before he played a major role, and has made good music since. Too each his own though.

I'll be buying a copy for sure.

lets not forget Waters was a founding member and wrote most of the material after the departure of syd including most of their iconic works ,

personally i have not found anything they have done after the wall very compelling but i will give it a listen anyhow

Cool - I've always been a HUGE fan of Phil Manzanera!
... and them other guys too (grin)

Rogers was involved in more PF albums than without him, they were a better band with him at least up to The Wall. If Syd never left we would not have Meddle, DSOTM, WYWH and definitely not The Wall.
This added bit is after the fact sort of like the last Bruce Lee movie completed after he is gone. I hope it is not so discontinuous.
The new band should really include Polly (Gilmour's wife). I don't fancy her lyrics, they are sort of new age and wimpsical. This will not be a Meddle. Perhaps it could be
more like Animals if Roger joined in. That wouldn't be so bad.

The easiest thing I can do is forget Waters . He has not been relevant for 30 years . Gilmour is still producing beautiful music .

I like the Division Bell more everytime I listen to it. Momentary Lapse is one of my all time favorite albums. I'm a huge fan of both post Rogers Floyd, and Rogers solo work. People that rant incessantly about the absence of Rogers in Floyd are just tiresome.

I think its important to remember that The Wall probably represented the end of what the band really had in the tank, regardless of which members left and which stayed. The Final Cut isn't good despite Waters' presence, and I don't think any of Water's solo work would have been saved by Gilmour's guitar or vocals.

Listening to the Division Bell reissue, I think Dave, Rick, and Nick really sort of found a good sound that is legitimately good even if it doesn't need to be compared to earlier Floyd albums. Not so much with Momentary Lapse Of Reason, which in addition to being terrible features what appear to be love songs, which just have no place on a Pink Floyd album period.

My thoughts exactly. I will add that Momentary Lapse of Reason was definitely a lapse of something. Interesting these conversations about Pink Floyd and Roger Waters. There are those that think the current Pink Floyd is somehow missing something without Waters. Personally, I think each musical work has to stand on it's own by it's acceptance and success. Pink Floyd has made great music with and without Waters. My favorite Floyd albums are Wish You Were Here and the Division Bell. One of each. But to say that Pink Floyd isn't Pink Floyd without Waters is akin to saying Van Halen isn't Van Halen without David Lee Roth.
