Pink Floyd to release first new album in 20 years

I first discovered PF with "The Wall", which weirded me out a bit but was really genius. Then I loved "Momentary Lapse Of Reason" and it really made my interest in PF take off, so I bought the back catalogue. I liked "Division Bell" when it came out, but I've grown to love it more and more over the years.

My biggest question is why did they not record anything in those years after DB, when Rick was still alive? Or even after he died? I mean, 20 years and nothing?

It's just a guess, but possibly $$$? David may want to remodel the houseboat studio where all the "majic" happens... :smoke:

Pink Floyd...with or without this one, with or without that one, relevant members, irrelevant members...whatever, I don't give a ****.

What I DO give a **** about is the music (regardless of the roster), and their music (all of it) is great, which is why I own it and will continue to do so.

lets not forget Waters was a founding member and wrote most of the material after the departure of syd including most of their iconic works ,

personally i have not found anything they have done after the wall very compelling but i will give it a listen anyhow

This is where I come down where PF is concerned. In fact, I tend not to like post-Roger Waters or the Syd Barrett eras as much as I do the "middle period".

Also, Division Bell wasn't one of my favorites so I have to wonder about a new release drawn from those sessions. Still, I don't think it wise to dismiss the new release "sound unheard" simply because it wasn't done by my favorite iteration of Pink Floyd. Anything any of these guys does/did is worth giving a serious listen.

After Syd they descended into upper middle class pseudo socialist pretentious drivel as far as lyrics went - see The Wall if you want to have an example. Musically," Wish You Were here " is probably their high point, though I've a soft spot for DSOTM.

That said, I thought they were the second best thing in the Live8 concert - a league above the rest, bar one.

The easiest thing I can do is forget Waters . He has not been relevant for 30 years . Gilmour is still producing beautiful music .

Waters may not be composing relevant music anymore, but his performances sure as heck are. You should see his Wall show live. It was incredible. I think even people who hate Pink Floyd would enjoy it.

interesting I will have to check it out

I can't bear "momentary lapse" so I'm glad it's not outtakes from those sessions :D
