PL-518 in the house, almost..

I picked up a PL-518 in non-working conditon to work on. Everything is there, even the feet parts.

Just picked one up as well earlier this week with a nice Shure cart at a record store that took in a pile of used turntables. It's in outstanding condition and even the dustcver is excellent (gonna do the swirl removal trick this weekend). Only listened to it at the shop through headphones, but it sounded outstanding compared to the POS they had at the listening station. I intend to put it through its paces this weekend and do some cart swapping to see how high up the food chain I can go on that arm before I hit the point of diminishing return. I'm not one for this vintage of turntable (I'm an idler kinda guy), but the second I picked it up and felt that mass, I knew this was a serious table. It's destined to be my lab table as the Technics SL1200mkII I had in there is doing duty in another system right now. The auto stop feature is what really attracted me to it as my lab mates are flighty and tend to walk away from the table for hours.....have found my Technics spinning away in the run-out hours after anyone was in there

Please let us know which cart turns out to be your favorite. I have owned two of these tables, love them, and am tempted to begin hunting for another one. I ran a Pickering XV-15/625E.

Have a 518 and 518x(black). I have used Shure M91ED, Shure M97xE, Ortofon OM20 & LM20.

This table works well with all listed. Search my thread on replacement for the feet. I use the Technics SL1200 feet(Part#SFGC122-04E).

Thanks, It looks really clean, dust cover is in vG shape, some yellowing from smoke. I have to plug it in to see if it turns?
These are easy to work on, all come apart pretty easy.
I like the M97Xe cart.

On the subject of 518 projects, don't neglect to at least consider the many really fab looking re-veneer projects that have been done for this turntable. Say like (but not limited to):
