I'm a big Arnie Nudell era Infinity fan and particularly the brilliant EMIT tweeter. Been like that since I was a teenager when my hearing would reach 20KHz+ and I was able to really appreciate the EMIT's abilities. Never really could afford to feed the fandom until much later when eBay sellers had them for a lot less than they were new, then I watched for auctions within driving distance.
These images are fairly old, representing earlier setups. They still very well represent the speakers, though.
First is my home work desk with a set of Infinitesimal III driven by a Trends Tripath amp. I have 2 sets of Infinitesimal III.
Second is stacked sets of 6 Kappa, one of which I frankensteined together out of gutted cabs and spare parts. (Note the earlier generation EMITs.) This is actually my primary system and sits across the room from my desk, is running almost all the time. The system has changed a lot since that picture. It has a well built Core 2 Duo based audio server with an Empirical Audio Off Ramp 3 USB reclocker, a heavily modded Valab NOS DAC, KingRex Pre, and 2 Trends Tripath amps (the 6 Kappa are fed less than 8 watts max per channel). Audioquest VDM-5 silver digital coax and Diamondback interconnects, and a Ridge Street Audio Poiema USB cable. There are no phase issues between the speakers and stereo imaging is magnificent. The whole thing sounds absolutely awesome for an office system.
Third is the tandem 8 Kappa right after I acquired the 2nd set. The 8 Kappa system is currently out of service waiting for a better space to run them.
Fourth (and fifth) are of my RS 1.5. My first set of Infinity speakers purchased new (with the benefits of 'layaway' payments) in 1980 when I was 19 years old. The cabs and grills are in excellent condition except for spotty darkening from sun exposure and age related dryness of the veneer. I've never touched the veneer with a wood treatment but it's obviously due for it. The last time they were in service I put clear polyprop Watkins in them from someone's set of RS 4.5. The last photo is a defective unit sticker I discovered on one of the original EMITs. Finding it well into ownership was a brow-raising experience although the drivers always performed well. I've since swapped them for later, better EMITs. These are killer hard rock speakers with excellent pounding dynamics when run with a big amp. I bought an Adcom GFA-1 flagship amp to drive them and blasted them repeatedly with Rush and Van Halen vinyl back in the day. The RS 1.5 are currently out of service.
EDIT: Found the images of the RS 4.5. They turned out to be project speakers and are currently in a closet.
