Polk or Advent

Advent Junkie
I currently own a pair of large advent loudspeakers. Are the polk moniter 10's better? How about the 12's?

I have had original Large Advents, Advent 5002's, (still do), currently own Polk Monitor 7's and 12's. My vote goes for the Polk's. I think they do everything a bit better although I'm sure others will disagree. BTW I do like the 5002's.

I like the Polk 7s over the 10s... never heard the 12s. I also like both the large Advents and the 5002, but I think the Polks are better. The Polk's won't ever need to be refoamed and the tweeters are not as fragile as the Advents.

Its all relative, depending on ones sonic tastes. I have 10's and 5's. A buddy has some Large Advents. They both sound nice. I prefer the Polk 10's. Not overly bright, great mids and tight bass. Am keeping my feelers out for some 7's :thmbsp: .

I have a pair of Monitor 5's and Large Advents hooked up in A and B. The Polks are very sweet with nice highs, but the Advents can boot the tunes really well at high volume. I find the Polks make guitars sound awesome while the Advents bring out the drums (This is completely unscientific and I'm sure others would/could disagree). I'm not sure how much more bass the extra midrange and the larger passive radiator on the 10 creates, but I notice they are a bit lacking in bass at higher volumes, whereas the Advents aren't.

I kept the Large Advent and I sold the Polk M10s. Shoot me. I loved the Polks they were awesome with just about everything. But they were to close to the sound of my Polk SDAs. So it was good bye. Not enough room. The Advents sound just as great and unique. Both speakers can crank, have great dimension and soundstage. Neither are lacking, just different. So it would be up to your ears. But if I had to go to a deserted island with one set, it would be the Polk M10s.
