Polk SDA CRS+

Curious about these speakers. What kind of power do they like? Good for a medium sized office/listening room? How would they compare to ADS L810's?

No personal experience, but I'd love to hear a set of those. First time I've seen them, too.

I used a variety of different amps on mine when I had a pair here years ago. They had no problem soaking up every bit a 250wpc Soundcraftsmen amp had so no need to worry much about overpowering them. Compared to 810's I'd have to give the edge to 810's in mids and highs but the bottom end definitely belonged to the Polks. I had the earlier 2 tweeter version which I'm sure had a lot to do with me preferring the upper register of the 810's.

I had the two tweeter version as well, and I have to agree with motorstereo, they liked the juice for the best sound.

Thanks for the replies. I occasionally get the bug to bring some new speakers home but then I listen to my L810's and think, I'd have to find something pretty special to top them for the price and size. I'm running them on a Yammie CR 1020 and they sound pretty darn good at low to medium volume.

When a Polkser gets the CRS w/ the 2 tweeters they fairly quickly disconnect the inner tweeters (i think) Most all prefer the single tweeter model and yes like all things SDA they love power. I haven't owned a pair but they are well coveted and if you can get the standard stands even better.

810's are damn fine speakers and well thought of here and it took a pair of 1530's to send my 810's away. The CRS's are a nice change imo but I was always pleased when their rotation time was up and it was time to put the 810's back.

Haven't heard the 810's, but the CRS+ is the most desirable (newest) model in the CRS series and they're serious speakers, especially for their size. With a $100 investment in new tweeters from Polk, I'd be very surprised if they didn't impress you. They can do what other speakers only dream of. People either love the SDA effect or they don't. It's something everyone should experience though.

A lot of people will say they need 200+ watts to sound good, but that's not true. They're very efficient speakers, so they don't need more than a few watts to come alive. However, their crossovers are quite complex and therefore need high current. Most receivers won't cut it. The CR1020 likely wouldn't be up to the task. You also need 3' of open space on the outside of them to get the full SDA effect.
