I've had the arm for 19 years. Every so often it skips. :thumbsdn: I take a Q-Tip soaked in isopropyl alcohol and clean the two Quartz tracks. There are no motors, just 3 ball bearings riding on top of quartz rods. So I use air cans to clean the bearings too.
Then it goes back to working perfectly.
Don't believe everything you hear.

Hey those are all nice tables but with the amount of vinyl you spend you should treat yourself to something nice. :thmbsp:
Indeed. I'm working on that my friend. Have to do a little selling first then decide which direction I want to go but I'm leaning towards new...
There are some SLT arms (it is early for me and I can't think of the name, ET?) that use air to float the arm at the back. I have heard that they work well, very low friction compared to mine and mine works very well.

These were taken minutes ago. The first one shows the two rear "wheels" that are ball bearings. The big quartz rod in the center does nothing that I know of. But the one in back and front are the "rails" that the wheels ride on.
The yellow putty on the left is holding the wires inside the slot where they go to the cartridge clips. The one on front is because I got tired of adjusting the weight on back and put some putty there to final adjust the tracking weight. It isn't like putting a quarter on top of the arm. (There will be some one who says so anyway!)
The second picture just shows the cartridge in reference to the arm travel. It is adjusted to track a line straight in to the center of the spindle.
The third was an attempt to show the front wheel, but you can't see it without a mirror. And my Canon doesn't focus that closely using a flash either.
And some won't care. It is just a unique arm.

AR plus Merrill/Scillia mods
Table is an AR "The Turntable" with a lot of Merrill/Scillia mods:
Extended posts and Linn springs, terpolymer subchassis, and inner platter. Acrylic outer platter. Both inner and outer platter lead mats. Steel threaded stud with much improved bearing, combined with improved bearing well in subchassis. Teres screw on clamp and Manepan Unitrac tone arm with Shure V15Vxmr cartridge. Sometimes an Infinity Black Widow is also used, see avatar.

Would you be so kind as to tell me how the 2M Red is working with that tonearm? I have a Pro-Ject RM-5 with practically the same tonearm, and I've wondered how well those heavy 2M cartridges would work with it if I ever decide to go that route.

This is my first decent turntable and I do not think I am qualified to give you a proper answer. With that being said, my table arrived with the cartridge installed. I put the counter weight on the arm and balanced it, dialed the manufacture recommended down fource and anti-skate force, leveled the turntable, plugged it in, adjusted the azimut and spun some vinyl. I will have to say I spent more time fine balancing the arm than I thought I would. But everything seems to perform perfectly. The red 2M is the low end but I think the Blue Bronze and Black have been said to perform quite well at their respective price points.

Well if it generally sounds good to you that's all I need to know. I should have known it would be ok. FYI, if and when you're ready to upgrade the cartridge you have a lot of options with that tonearm - but for now it looks like you're set up real nice so no need to worry about that.
