Metz is a German company, but the turntable is obviously Japan made. Some people say its built by Micro Seiki.

Looks very much like a NEC AUP 8300e.

Yes, you are right! They are pretty much the same. Didn't know the NEC yet.
But I assume that NEC isn't the manufacturer either?

I have no idea who built them, but I would suppose not NEC. This is the only NEC turntable I've had direct experience with: http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=341498
