Potato Chips

Utz un the big Gold Can, refilled right in Hanover!
Regards,
Jim

Lay's Classic, but only because it's the next best thing to Utz from my childhood when I used to live just miles from their Hanover, PA factory. Mmmmmmmmm.... fresh, right off the conveyors.

Let me know if you want some Utz's sent your way.
Regards,
Jim

I ate three or four chips and ate no more. They weren't as good as I remembered. Too "cold-grease" tasting if that's a descriptor.
Mike

What a great description for that greasy taste I can't stand either!! :D

Yeah we're big Utz fans. I like the Grandma Utz Homecooked, but they're kinda fat pucks so we get the regular Utz most often.

I also have to admit a certain fondness for Baked Lays, too bad you have to double up on 'em.

The "new thing" in chips I saw last time I was up in Ohio was cracked pepper / kettle cooked. Several of the local brands had them as well as Utz. These things quite peppery, almost hot, but addicting.

I love Shearer's from Northern Ohio. Utz's is always appreciated when I can find them. Dan-Dee, man that takes me way back. Snyder's (the other guys from PA) in the foil bag. Those are all great!

I got turned on Grippo's out of Cincinnati back in school. The fraternity house would buy food-service boxes for parties. I just ate too much of them in lieu in dinner.

Frito-Lay does nothing for me except for original Fritos. Ever had a fresh Frito right off the line? Dude.

Shearers, Charles, then Lay's.
Dan Dee used to be my favorite, but they were bought out several years ago and the new owners have "standardized" things with their other brands and the old Dan Dee flavor has been lost.

Looks like I am not the only one fond of Shearer's... If you can get your hands on them, give them a try.

Snyders of Hanover, Buffalo Wing Chips.

Hard to find locally so I usually end up Eating Poore Brothers Jalapeno or 3 Cheese Jalapeno. As was mentioned by another Poore Brothers makes great chips.

Snyder's of Hanover. That's the ones we used to get. Very good.

The best snack foods seem to come from PA and, to a lesser degree, Ohio. Yum.

I take that back... It was Snyder's of Berlin. Listed under Birdseye, I wonder if it is the same product it used to be?

Dayton, Ohio's local Mike-Sell's had a shake-up recently, adding some new flavors and a lackluster Kettle Cooked line. The downside of this is that they did away with one of my favorite flavors, Old Fashioned Barbecue, and (sacrilege) moved away from using pure peanut oil for frying. The latter would piss me off more if it had actually made much of a difference in the finished product.

To me Mike-Sell's is how chips are supposed to taste. I defy anybody to find a better dip chip than Mike-Sell's Groovy.

Can't go wrong with Original, Groovy, or Old Fashined for basic chips. As far as flavors, I'm a big fan of their Good 'N Hot and Green Onion. The new Salt & Pepper is growing on me. Their Barbecue is excellent, but I prefer Grippo's for that.

Mmmm... potato chips...
