So, there will be PLENTY more to come on the MC2205 saga, but for now... what are the left and right channel gain settings that most people use to run their rigs? I'm running a C34V as preamp.

McIntosh used to recommend that you do something with the preamp gain, I believe the setting was around 2:00, then set the amplifier gains for the maximum SPL you will use (or something like that).

Of course since the ‘90s, their amplifiers no longer have any gain knobs and they are set to full gain, which is the same as turning the gain knobs to max.

Personally, I like to set the amp to max, avoid the signal passing through another variable resistor. There are advantages/arguments both ways.
 
2205 has input sensitivity controls on the back. Set the switch at 2.5 volts and turn the controls wide open. If you use the 0.75 volt setting then set controls down to 12:00 or 11:00 o'clock. Look on this websites Database section for the owners manual for a 2205 or 2200.
