A few weeks back, I was eyeing this unit when a better deal popped for the AU-717 that ended up in my collection. This unit was still available after I finished my rebuild. I recommended to my co-worker BK (who is starting to get into HiFi and vintage equipment). Price was improved and BK picked it up. Needless to say this unit would power on but was not working.

No worries I told BK. Once home the surprises starting to surface... this unit had hitch hikers. Ms. BK was not happy when she spotted some creepy crawlies beginning to descend from the AU-717. It was quickly bagged and put into BKs garage. German cockroaches = no bueno. He hit them with a bug fogger and sealed the bag. He killed a '**** load' of them (technical term).

There are some nasty folks out there. Have brought home so much equipment over the last 5 years, but I been lucky to have avoided a bug infestation. This experience might have change my quarantine process.

Told BK that I would swap my AU-717 while I rebuilt his unit. He lives about 2 hours away, as part of the swap he advised me to open up in the garage before introducing into the house - sage advice for sure. Once it arrived at my house - unit was un-bagged in my garage and starting cleaning - pretty nasty.

During the initial disassembly, a roach jumped out. With my lightening reflexes - it was introduced to a dirt nap. Next the unit was quickly re-bagged. Ms. Noob was full hot with the idea of introducing BKs unit to her dojo. So after much reading, determined the only way to kill resilient homies with gas masks (hidden in the small spaces) was to introduce them to few days of some Arctic conditions (will kill any eggs as well).

With the existence of three freezers, I was able to do some consolidation. Above image depicts the storage locker for the AU-717. Four days later, the AU-717 was reintroduced to the SWFL climate. Yes - I hear that freezing is hard on electrolytics; however, I would argue much easier than dealing with with roaches in Ms. Noob's house (plus I am changing all the electros).

These 1220 & 2690 are really good drivers and the MJEs are bullet proof / overkill that should last about forever.

Did some listening compares on the upgraded amp vs the other... the new semis sounded better (JFYI).

Rebuilt the other channel too.
