If you are real nice and chatty with the guys at Saturday Audio Exchange, they sometimes will look at your equipment.
The dude on Montrose is an old grouch, stay away from him. I walk by the place all the time, because I live off Montrose, and he is always back there brooding behind his desk.
I have heard Van L Speakerworks is pretty good.

I believe Holm sends all their repairwork to Deltronics which is right down the road in Woodridge. Also out in West Chicago, Electronics Express has done some work for me with satisfactory results.
I'm agreeing with you on Deltronics. Sometimes I'm too lazy to go to the next step and Holm Audio is just hanging on and I'd like to see them stay in business.
Electronics Express is intriguing seeing I'm in Wheaton.

I just dropped off a tuner at Deltronics for an alignment. I'll let you all know how it turns out.
I just waited 3 months for Van L to fix a Jolida amplifier I bought new from him, I'm not so happy with that.
Some say Chicago Audio at 63rd and Pulaski does good work. I have no personal experience however.

I'd love to hear your opinions after it's done. I've dropped by and spoken to Mike (the owner) about alignments. He told me the equipment he uses (good stuff) and that he's experienced at it.
Ha, the Green Mill. I used to live by there and went a few times. Patricia Barber's voice is just as distressing live as on record.
To be honest, it seems as though reviews on the place are mixed - both on google, and here at AK. I figured it could add some more info and hopefully people can make a better decision. I don't doubt that everything will be fine.
It's also nice to know that there are other options out there (Chicago Audio) as well.
Skylab - It's interesting you mention that they don't usually do restorations - One of the people I spoke to at the store told me that they were seeing a lot of caps on these old Marantz models going and that my tuner might be headed in that direction! I was quick to note that I was in no hurry to spend hundreds of dollars recapping it, and an alignment was just about all I could afford.

They called a few weeks back and told me it was going to be about 175 for a tuner alignment and to fix my "stereo" bulb (just burned out, no board issues). I thought that was a bit steep. They also mentioned their head tech would be doing the work - I might assume that it's Mike. ETA was 3 weeks, so it should be done soon. I'll update when I hear.
