Report Problems with Ads Here!

Folks,

Maybe the AD's are not a problem because you can "Plugin" them away but they are symptomatic of deeper issues.

If a feed is blasting crap and its included here it should be shut down just as harshly as a spammer making posts by you diligent folks hitting the report button.

This stuff does NOT go away on its own and actually gets worse as time goes on. This garbage also affects site latency , stability and even some of it can infect kind users machines.

Look at this garbage as a "Canary In A Coal Mine" and we are all coal miners.

Just because you have a strategy to deal with the toxins does not mean you should not care about the folks who do not.

I'm more likely to get the Sir Edmund version if my browser history has anything to do with it...where I work sells climbing gear. :)

But seriously, AdBlock works for me. I don't see any political ads or brides for sale. Occasionally if I am searching the www and end up at AK through a link rather than a bookmark I will see some ads but they are not there when logged in like now.
 
I've been here for a number of years and never seen an ad like what is described in this thread. I'm running Firefox as a browser and haven't got it set to block anything special.
 
Probably already been answered but don't ad blockers prevent AK from getting revenue it needs from ads? If so, ad blockers are detrimental to AK. This should be important to members who want to see the site thrive financially, as well as to site owners. I don't want to use an ad blocker for this reason, and all of us have an incentive to get rid of ads that are way out of line with AK's philosophy.

The only other thing I can say is that we all know that fake news is a heinous problem for our society regardless of one's personal affiliations. It is anti-democratic and we should all be opposed to it in any form. If there is a reasonable way to filter it out of the ad feeds, I absolutely think AK should do so. I suspect the management would agree (in principle anyway). How do-able that is in a technical sense is out of my league so I will leave it to those piloting the ship.

Yes of course they need the revenue. But I seriously doubt they are getting revenue from these injected , garbage , fake news crap. And the silence on this subject speaks volumes to me and I am not interested in looking at a bunch of focus stealing , blinking/bouncy crap.

If they don't care to deal with it or even acknowledge its a problem that should not exist why should members subject themselves to this junk.

I try not to get upset about audio so I'm adopting a wait-and-see attitude. I said my piece. It's been pointed out that the people who can address this are not on AK daily so I prefer to assume things are going on that we are not being updated upon hourly, which is OK with me. I certainly don't expect the mods to speak for them. I'm just gonna chill and mow the lawn and stuff. :cool:

I thought it might be something like that because I have been seeing Richie Bros auctions banners which is a large auction company out of the Vancouver BC area.

We are pretty sure that we have removed all of the political ads. We can completely understand that this needs to be addressed, and we can block those categories. Sometimes this is based on personal browsing behaviour - but other times we do have controls over the meta settings around categories.

Please keep reporting these in the official ad reporting thread. That is the one we actively monitor!

There's a big Ritchie Brothers near Kansas City. I did not know they were Canadian.
