Years ago my mother found a Parker pen on an airplane that had a sterling silver overlay with the name "Edward Kennedy" on it. She wrote to the Senator's office, asking if it were his so she could return it, and he wrote back to say that it was indeed his but that he would like her to keep it.

We all have our faults, things we've done or that have happened in our lives we aren't proud of, and he's no exception. For decades, however, he has exemplified the words "class act" IMO.

R.I.P. Mr. Kennedy. :sigh: It's hard to know what to say in any thread about deaths, but the Kennedy boys definitely made a difference in the world. Ted wasn't perfect, but he worked a lot of years trying his best, & that's all any of us can do.

I heard an NPR story this morning that listed some of the things he spent many years advocating - health care and worker safety among them. Not only that, he stayed in there working for what he believed in even after both his brothers were killed doing the same thing. God, what would that be like? It was only through God's grace and fortitude he didn't give up and become a bitter shell of a man. He had faults and made his mistakes which I'm sure he knows, and he did some good work for America and Americans too. As someone said, what more can you ask for.
