SACD recommendations

I think of all the money I've spent on SACD's and I rarely play them anymore.

Even on my $$$$ Marantz SACD dedicated player the sound is not nearly as good as streaming Amazon Ultra content from a Node 2i.

You got that right. I have so many collecting dust. Sometimes I like to listen to some of the multichannel stuff if it's mixed well other than that they don't get much play these days. Mostly classical stuff.

I never expected to find a post like this on this forum.

Very cool. :beerchug:

Have you seen Mr Savall perform?
No sadly! I wish. I love him because he performs rare early music that others won't touch because it doesn't sell as many albums. Also, hugely talented. Too funny I figured I was going to be the only one that's ever heard of him. Lol

My favorites are Hesperion Jeanne D'arc and L'orchestre de Louis XV. However all Allia Vox stuff is amazing.

Glad to meet someone with similar tastes! :jump:

I saw him perform at Carnegie Hall two years ago, I had tickets to see him again this fall but of course it was cancelled.

Well at least you got to see him once. Hopefully when this Covid crap is done with eventually a lot of musicians will hitting th road to make up for the lost year. Next time he is in the New York City area for sure I will definitely go see him.

You've got it backwards my friend. :)

Tell you what, why don't you qualify and quantify your inane contention to win us all over? You know, use science instead of pulling things out of your hind quarter. .

A quote of mine which may benefit you:

"You may have an opinion in the absence of fact, not in conflict with it."

Peace

Ignorance for me and I'm sure for others came from not having had the experience of high resolution streaming. And if I was arrogant in my thinking it was because I thought there was nothing better than SACD. If you lived near by I'd invite you over to hear Diana Krall on SACD and then the same album streaming at 24bit /192 khz.

Ignorance for me and the educated is making definitive claims which cannot be supported.

It's OK to say,
"I prefer the sound from my cheap Bluesound node to my $$$$ Marantz SACD dedicated player"
It is not OK to state definitively, "the sound (SACD) is not nearly as good as streaming Amazon Ultra content."

It is possible that your "$$$$ Marantz SACD dedicated player" is not functioning perfectly and adds noise, distortion which the Node does not. But your statement "not nearly as good as streaming" is complete and totally bullshit as I said.

This is silly, believe as you will. After all, it is the season to believe as Santa is coming.

Peace

Every hear of this band? They seem to have a following and have their own website where their SACDs are very affordable. Some material is also on vinyl, CDs, Blu-ray, and/or downloads.

I bought 16 SACD discs and they averaged about $11 per hybrid disc delivered. Great for building your classical music library, all in nice packaging. I got all the Sibelius symphonies, all the Schubert symphonies, all the Schumann symphonies, a single Tchaikovsky symphony, and all five Beethoven piano concertos.

Galactus2...I have not heard the Ponti but another Telarc is the Yoel Levi Pictures which harry pearson was enamored of. I still prefer the Maazel/Cleveland but I enjoy listening to the different interpretations.

I'm not sure the Levi was ever on SACD.

Finally my great deal on classical SACDs from the Berlin Philharmonic arrived at $9 a disc plus two bucks a disc shipping to Abu Dhabi. There was another buck a disc in import duty.

Got all the symphonies of Sibelius, Schumann, and Schubert plus all five Beethoven piano concertos plus Tchaikovsky's 6th. 16 disc's in all with great packaging. Listening to the 6th now and it's got great dynamic range.

This should keep me busy!

So without scrolling through the entire thread.... where is a good source of reasonable priced sacd’s mostly rock - Americana- blues- etc..... is what i would be interested in. Thanks.

The Highnote label used to offer some great jazz in SACDs, engineering and mastered by Rudy Van Gelder.

However their website doesn't seem to show my old favorites anymore nor do they differentiate the SACDs (if any) from the Redbooks.

I email asking about SACD offerings but have gotten no response.

Acoustic Sounds has some great offerings but they ain't cheap. Here's my last order.

I am a little green on the whole SACD thing . And i dont even know what the reference to “red book” CD is ? If you wish to bring me up to speed i would be eternally grateful. I did look at the acoustic sounds site, and yes, they are a little “salty” on the prices..... :-). I would like to own a few of those titles but i will have to proceed slowly at those prices.

When the compact disk was commercialized, Sony and Philips issued technical specifications for the industry. Those specs are called the "Redbook."

That's the standard compact disc at 44.1 thousand samples per second and a data size of 16 bits. Billions have been made.

Sony later wanted to do better and invented DSD or data stream digital or something like that. It uses a much higher data bit rate so to better capture analogoue sound in a computer file. On a disc, that's a Super Audio Compact Disc or SACD. It has DSD files and is copy protected which a Redbook CD is not. You can also download DSD files from Acoustic Sounds or HDTracks, etc.

A hybrid SACD has both Redbook layers and DSD layers.
