Opinions please. Which preamp is the better sounding, bestest made unit.
SAE Mark 1B VS Harmon Kardon Citation 11 VS Soundcraftmen SP-4001
Yes, the SC has more eq settings, but does that make it better?

They're all nice pre's.The eq gives you more flexibility with shaping the sound so in a sense it's better. But there are lot of guys here who think any kind of tone controls are dreadful abominations of hifi me I think they're ok.

The Citation used removable boards, I think, a nice way to build a unit. I haven't been inside the SAE or SC. Maybe if you post a pic of each for those of us that haven't seen them or wait until some of the techs make comments or repairing these units.

You will need to listen to each of them without tone controls to determine which sounds best and then evaluate if the addition of the tone controls/EQ is a decided advantage for one of the units.

The HK also has very nice sliders, the SC are very rough even after a pro cleaning/lub. I have not received my SAE yet. I have about three days before it gets here. I was just hoping to get some others opinions.
