Does someone can help me where I can get one transformer for Sansui G9700 receiver?

I wonder if the part is unique to the G-9700 or if used, for example, in any of the other monster G's ?

No, for example G9000 has completely different transformer, plus transformer of G9700 has output voltage for power amplifier +/- 75V and transformer for G9000 has +/- 62V...

Yes, I also wondered if it might be used in one of the BA's (BA-2000 etc) for example?

I think that Sansui has made transformers just for each model of theirs production. If something was made in Sansui as high standard, that was transformers... but this one probably had something wrong... during normal level of listening, suddenly it began to emit a large amount of smoke, the result, shorted primary winding!?!?
What is strange, it worked at my place without any problem, there was not any kind of lighting, not high temperature... everything was normal...
And everything else is OK!! Just primary winding is shorted....

I have talked with ilimzin (probably one of the best man for audio electronic on the world!!) and he told me that transformer probably had damage of insulation of the primary winding, it could be even during production, and probably after all those years it finally made a short circuit....

Without being sure of this, transformer can be disassembled and rewinded , I know the difficult part is extract the contact cement from it.

Ahaa!!! The electron that broke the transformer's back.

I guess that you might be able to locate a commercial transformer that meets your electrical requirements, but is too large to mount in the chassis of the G-9700.

Here is hoping that someone with a parts unit will chime in.

There are companies that rebuild transformers.

Hi Doc, how are you?

Yes, I know ... here in Croatia we have some companies that are very good in that but I would try to get one original Sansui transformer, but if I do not, I'll give this transformer to rewind...

I would just get the transformer re-wound....

I have done this many times before to great effect......

The stock transformer is potted. Most transformer shops won't fool with 'em.

Are you 100% positive that the transformer is the problem? A blown soft-start resistor will mimic an open primary.

Yes, I am 100% positive, because I connected the transformer only to the mains (over 150 W light bulb).... one other thing, the housing of transformer was so hot when I opened receiver and finally blown soft-start resistor will not produce so big smoke...

Bugger!!

I have also had this problem too!! Yeah they won't touch them......

My suggestion, then is to find a stock toroid that has the correct voltages for the output stage, and add a sub transformer for powering everything else. I haven't seen one of these, hopefully there is room for an extra transformer. It wouldn't have to be very large, and the new toroid might even be smaller than the original. I suppose you could also talk to Isao Sakura and ask him if his transformer company can make a new one to the original specs, or if they have any parts. sales@obsinc.us
