Sansui relay subs

To my knowledge, the 8080DB/9090DB are the only Sansui that use the MY3 relay. All the Sansui receivers with a protection relay up to that point in the Sansui timeline used the MY4. All the Sansui receivers after them used the LY2, LY4 and or the MY4. I also don't know any other brand models that use the MY3 making it somewhat hard to find.

I am looking for suggestions for relay replacement for sansui au alpha 607xr

"Original relays are G5R-2232C-SAD = '24VDC, DPST, NO' - the new ones are G2RG-2A4-DC24, which are 'drop in', same size replacements". ;)

Check the type number on your relays - The SM for the AU-α607MR / MRX (can't find AU-α607XR), says the relays are "G5R-2232C" if it is the same as above - the replacement quoted is still available from many suppliers.

What does 'Fms' mean?

Apologies for the small m in FMs i.e. Fellow Members.

Since, I have little experience in such things, I will not be opening up the amp. I will probably take it to a tech one day. However, the tech lives 50 miles away and driving down to just know the relay model doesn't appeal to me at this point. Especially, that he is just a repairman and does not have access to parts. Which makes it two trips, once to know the relay model and second to get it replaced.

Sansui AU a607 xr was introduced in between AU x711 and AU a607mrx. If the relay from the models AU x711 to AU a607mrx is same, it is likely that AU a607xr also has the same model relay but assumptions can be dangerous.

I thought I was ordering the right one MY4 24V DC which is what I received however the pins are too thick as seen in the photo. Did I order the wrong "type". I find the info on these confusing. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
 
Almost in all my rebuilds i use PT271024 TE CONNECTIVITY to replace speaker relay. It has a bit higher coil resistanse than original but for AU-717/517/417/317 i just replaced it and it worked well.

12Amps contacts, it is compact. Austrian made.

Do not be deceived by Mouser's picture. the leads are made for "Though the hole" installation.

Also recently i had to replace speaker relay in my Accuphase E-202 which failed in a way that crippled the output transistors. Some of you may know that for E-202 damaged relay means almost a death roll as there is no replacement and difficulty there also that same transistor controls one more relay in pre-amp section. So what i did was to create small adapter to match the footprint of that small relay and on that adapter i installed regular miniature relay which suited the circuit. You can find my thread in Kenwood/Kensonic forum. Still have some adapter boards if anybody interested.

What i mean is that we could create similar footprint adapters for those hard to find Sansui relays.

If I’m not mistaken the above relay will do for replacing all 3 relays in the AU-X11 and I’m going to try those in my next restoration.

In a previous restoration of an AU-X11 I had only one “Made in Japan”
FUJI (HH62B DC24V) and I fitted it to the “speakers A” circuit, for the “speakers B” and “soft start” relay I used the
“Made in China” OMRON .
Can’t really tell and I didn’t check either if there was any effect to the quality of the sound but I can tell you that when the
FUJI “clicks” it leaves you with an essence that this is a “serious” audio amplifier that is about to play music , versus the OMRON that leaves me an essence that my dishwashing machine it starts a washing program ……
Let’s see how the Austrians will “sound” ;)
 
When I looked at a removed original relay, I could see that the 'throw' of the contacts was significantly bigger than the replacement, obviously causing a louder 'slap' when the relay engaged. I also noticed the difference in sound when it 'operates' - and felt similar to you about it at first, but it doesn't bother me any more. I think of it like this, 'it's like a quality car, the doors close with a satisfying soft clunk'. :)

However...
I reconditioned an amplifier and had to change one of the two speaker relays, the 'B' speaker relay was fine. But after testing it and using it for a while I couldn't stand the marked difference in the relay activation sound between the two relays, one old, one new. So I also replaced the 'B' speaker relay, as well and retired the original good relay to my 'good used parts' bin. ;)

You are correct !
I don’t think I would have noticed the difference in “quality click” if I haven't heard the FUJI , especially when I have one FUJI and one OMRON in the same amp.

Original P/N RABK-2B has MY4-02-DC24 listed in this thread but there's only two rows.

Correct, only 2 rows on the original relay - you can modify the suggested new relay by cutting off the extra pins which are the 'NC' (Normally Closed) contacts which aren't used - but words of warning, 'measure twice - cut once' ;) - otherwise you might modify the new relay's usefulness straight into 'the square filing cabinet' on the floor. :(
