Schiit Buf

A little tube goodness goes a long way !
Even with a hybrid arrangement, the tube warms up the presentation.

@albusark ,Years ago, I also heard this improvement from a hybrid headphone amp. This was before they offered them with RCA output jacks. I wired up a 1/4" stereo, phone plug to RCA plugs, cable and ran that between my CDPlayers and amp. The gain and blossom of sound really presented a budget cdp very well.

With all the positive comments on this thread, I imagine Schitt will soon offer a Buf volume control option...

Don't let anyone say, "Oh, buffer tubes can't make a difference!"

System dependent? Yes. But in a certain setup, they can have a huge impact. In others, next to nothing.

Yes @Mr Boochie. Probably next to nothing with such a "Full-Tube" or "Tube-Full" setup, for example... With a total of 25 tubes ! ;)

One of these days, I'll build a Tube Buffer - but the design will include a volume control, and defeatable tone controls... :)

The only all-tube stuff I have is guitar amps. I don't think I'll ever own a DSP, solid-state modeling amp.

Call me a Luddite!

;)
No one seems to discuss this, but the only way any piece of gear can become legendary is if it is able to keep functioning after 10 years :D

This is what we would call a relic'ed amplifier... :rflmao:

Me too ! I played for a time on the Fender Mustang II of the Music School : lightweight, convincing sounds, but totally unpredictable, full of quirks and flaws ... In one word : unreliable.

I remember one modeler amp — I think it was a Line 6. I programmed it for the Tweed Blues sound. Not bad, but not the smooth, buttery, harmonic-filled overdrive of the original.

I guess if you have never had a chance to play an original Fender tweed, it may be okay.

I still have a Vox 50 watt modeling amp. it has a tube in the preamp. The AC30, tweed and blackface clean settings are very good. I boost it with a pedal though because the overdrive settings are terrible. For big rooms. In smaller ones I always used all tube amps, 20 and 30 watt'rs.

I really want to build an AC30. My son really likes the Read Bear clone of the 100 watt JCM800, and a 25 watt version of the JCM800 I built for him. He recently put the Red Bear up for sale since the one I built is lighter and sounds very similar to the Red Bear.
I want to see if he would like an EL84 amp though. EL84 amps can sound sooo good.

I'll bet that JCM800 clone is a killer. The AC30 type amps are my favorite smaller amps. I sold my last one, a 20 watt Palomino, to my neighbor.

See if you can find a Matchless DC30 to restore or DIY one (quad EL84). A friend has one and the Chieftain (dual EL34). Those are absolute tone monsters.

It came out pretty nice. He likes the sound of those Russian 6P3S-E's in that Russian made clone. I had him try some old stock Tungsol 5881's in that amp I built and he likes them as well. They've been in that amp for some time now.

That's actually my plan. I like that the two channels in the DC30 are pretty different from each other. The one channel being a AC30. Its like having two different amps in one. I'm still working through a couple previous projects that need some tweaking though.

I have the Hurricane. It is an AC15 with a tremolo/vibrato section. One of the best and loudest 15-watt amps you'll ever hear.
