Schiit Fans ?

.

Got a Test drive with a Ragnarok 2 'Fully Loaded' tomorrow

I'm not crazy about the DAC but hope the MM phone is good

BTW-- the unit is for sell

Been playing the R2 for about 1 hr into AR18s... Yamaha T2 tuner

The 3 gain positions and the Vol control take some time to figure out the best combination -- sorta strange

I will say... the Ragnarok 2 is a true HiFi integrated amplifier. just has that SQ

Will move to main system later tonight

Yggdrasil D/A here. Incredible sound quality. Transformed my digital front end in a very good way. Schiit fulfilled the promise of upgradability with a new USB board I installed myself.

I email Schiit... got a quick reply

The warranty is NOT transferable... At present cannot replace the USB DAC with a line level RCA input :(

Both Stereophile Mag reviewers really liked the R2

JA concluded his measurements with:

It is a well-engineered, apparently conventional design offering low noise and distortion coupled with usefully high power. The options include an excellent, low-noise, MM-compatible phono preamplifier, though the USB digital input will be outclassed by standalone digital processors. - John Atkinson

Did not get around to moving the unit into the main system... got too late. Will probably leave R2 in my office setup for the rest of the day

Played CDs and Flac files for most of last night... SQ of amp is top notch

Using the Phono input this morning... Modified AT-PL120 (Non USB) with a Shure V15 III --- spinning 1st LP

It's supposed to be a nice sounding integrated amp. I look forward to your impressions. And while the Fully Loaded version has DAC and phono cards, I wouldn't have much use for a DAC with only a single USB input. I'd still want to use an external DAC.

Good luck.

The pre/amp SQ is very good , way up there , a little too early to be sure but I prefer it over the Musical Fidelity I tested

Does Schiit not sell the RCA Line Level cards to an owner?

Apparently not... I believe the main board in the 'Fully Loaded' is different than the one in the 'Just an Amp' version. 'Just an Amp' comes with 3 RCA inputs

Another I believe... Schiit has plans for newer better cards/modules to plug and play down the road a bit

If I buy this one I will use a RCA switcher - although I would rather not

That makes me wish I'd considered a Freya S, before they sold out!

Check out the pictures of the Ragnarok, on Schiit's site. Click on the high-res internal photo. To me, it definitely looks like blank RCA cards in there! Not even circuit traces on the backside.
If you decide to keep the R2, I'd definitely contact Schiit customer service, to see if they can provide 2 RCA cards? Jason often states over at Head-Fi, that if you ask nicely, Schiit can get you extras. Worth a shot.

I did contact Schiit C/S (see post #63)

Inputs 1 & 2 are XLR

3 is Phono

4 is USB DAC

5 is line level RCA

I believe I see a difference on the main board between 5 and 4... 3 & 4 appear to be like a plug and play.

I finished the 2nd tier review... have moved the Ragnarok 2 into the main system and room where my better stuff is located

My son will be over in about 30 mins to help his old man out

Glad to hear it passes the preliminary QC and sound check. That you've moving it into the main system is a good sign. Hoping the synergy is there.

I'm always curious, tho, as to whether someone is hoping for a particular sound, or perhaps a lack thereof, and which they feel they have gotten.Looking forward to hearing what you think of this one...

Well... we spun mostly LPs last night. My kid brought over 2 and we played 4 of mine

Speakers used: B&W PM1 and Klipsch Forte

Heavily modded KAB 1200 mk2 with a Dyna DV-20x2L and a MMF 7.3 with an ART-9

Played both through an Icon SUT ---> Ragnarok 2 Phono... Also played both TTs into a PS Audio NuWave Phono Converter ---> Rag2 XLR inputs

I could happily live with Rag2 as my main amp... I do have a couple nits to pick tho

My son was impressed with the control of the Rag2 over the speakers. Does not sound/behave like a 60w amp

I think you get my drift... very fine Integrated. As mentioned above , I do prefer the Rag2 over the Musical Fidelity M6si SQ Wise. M6si is more versatile

The more I use my Schiit and the more I here about other Schiit, I am pretty sure one or two of their amps and a pre are in my near future.
I did just buy a Saga+ for the new house since the TV is going to be “in” the main system somehow.
:beerchug:

Nice!! Excited for you.Its nice to have those acres!!

Best part is middle of nowhere for being on the coast, kind of like we are now, but instead of middle of a swamp it’s the middle of farms and woods. It’s in between Windsor and Smithfield, Va. my last “real” house I sold a few years ago was in Smithfield.
