Shine on You Crazy Diamond. Official Pink Floyd Thread.

Yeah the thread only vanished recently, like maybe a couple or three months ago. I did some searching myself when Gnome and Oz brought up the fact that it was missing. I couldn't find it either.

Yeah it was a shame as it had quite a bit of PF trivia on it as well. Even found out how I missed finding the Battersea Power Station in London due to your Google Streetview skills!

We'll fill it up again......

Another great pic. They would just photoshop it in now. I wonder how long it took to set up.

I did have the information about that. I DO know it was done twice, once in California but the usual moderate weather turned nasty on them. They then set it all up again in the UK a few weeks later.

Occasionally Hipgnosis did do a bit of editing in the darkroom long before Photoshop. My Avatar was one example.

I don't think Storm Thorgerson would ever resort to Photoshop, although he did do a little wizardry with the Animals cover due to all the issues they had with the pig getting loose and the atmospheric conditions.

Yes, those two covers in the background would have been done in the darkroom. Peter Gabriel S/T looks like they would have just inked over the negative to get the white scratches. Mars Volta jellyfish-head would have been masked top and bottom.

Even the Audioslave album cover flame sculpture was photographed in front of some coal in London, then blended into a photo taken on The Canary Islands.

Here's Storm with a model for location purposes on site.

Storm Thorgerson did the album cover for Anthrax's 1995 release Stomp 442. In reality he had done it for Bruce Dickinson's Balls To Picasso, but Bruce inexplicably couldn't afford it.
Scott Ian of Anthrax said Storm made a quartered section of the scrap heap ball, suspended it from a crane and photographed it several times to achieve the effect. Walmart refused to sell the album because of the tiny naked man on the cover.
