I heard the Lintons being played through a restored AU-919 a few years ago at a guy's house and I was blown away by the sound. They've been on my radar ever since. Let us know your listening impressions as the AU-717 is a great amp to push those speakers.

I too have encountered numerous Sansui bass reflex speaker systems with damping stuffed in the port(s), while others were not so treated. It's unclear to me why this was done, as it really makes no sense. On those I've found "stuffed" in such a manner, removing the material and leaving the ports open has always improved the sound, to my ears anyway.

I hope you'll post a thread in these the main Sansui forum once you have all the improvements and updates done to them, and will give your honest assessment of the finished product.

I just picked up an almost new condition Kenwood KR5150 receiver to pair with the 3500s. I figured it was worth trying because the price was right, and I'm really surprised by this little amp. 33 wpc pairs well with the efficiency of the Sansuis and so does it's 50 damping factor. The loudness circuit is WAY over the top so I'm going to try to find the schematic for it and see what can be done. It's stable to 4 Ohms and the tuner is pretty good as well. It doesn't have the sexy looks of a Marantz receiver, but I could buy 4 or 5 of these Kenwoods for what the market wants for a good condition Marantz.

Beauty time machine piece! I've never seen an 800 before - I used to have a 2000x which had a similar look and sounded nice but didn't quite have enough oomph for me.
 
I have had all European varieties. Wooden case with walnut, painted in White varnish and metal case. A beauty for "certain hours"

The above photo is au-505 with the CJ pv-6 tube pre-amp, In back are AR-4xa's and Event 20/20 speakers, along with the Dual 1229.

Scored a TU-217 to go with the AU-217 for next to nothing today at the local BPC junkyard. Needs dial lights but works fine otherwise. AU-8500 and Eight back from the spa and good to go for the next 50. Shop rack reorg incoming this weekend.

@petesui, you are probably already aware of this, but the TU-217 didn't have dial lighting. It can be added with some ingenuity, but the stock power supply is not setup to power any lamps, nor is the diffuser to spread the light evenly over the dial scale as was fitted on the TU-317 present. A warm white LED strip the length of the dial would probably suffice, except for the meters, which would need additional lighting fitted to look right.

I did not know that, actually. I assumed they were out. Thanks. All it needs then is a little cleaning. It's in nice shape otherwise.
