Show us your DIY speaker projects!

I love the 7.3's. In my opinion they are leaps above the 10.2 in imaging and accuracy, granted you stay within their limitations. Not pictured was my favorite set. A pair of 15" Hawthorne Audio open baffle speakers. Those photos will be up soon as I'm about to do a full rebuild using a pair of Hawthorne Audio Augie's on a new larger baffle.

I documented this build on the Altec User Board with the help from GM & Pano. I've been so busy with work I haven't had the time I would like to finally get this completed. But should be soon. I built a big corner box 20 cubic feet out of 3/4" Baltic Birch for dual 416-8B's ,and will have a 511E with a 288 on it.If needed I will use a pair of EV T350's for super tweeters.

Wow, some really nice work here . . .

. . . I humbly submit my "franken-baffles." :D

Hawthorne Audio coaxials, with Augie woofers. I also had a little fun with the grills.

These are temporary configurations because it was quick but they sound every bit as good as the intended copy of a JBL 1400 Array.

I will be building nice cabs, but I really want to finish my L250>250Ti upgrades/cab refinish first.

First I bought the JBL SAM1HF (horn mf/hf), then found some HK Citation 7.4's (woofer cabs) and then found some LE14H-3's (Thanks Jack) then built the Charged Coupled 1400 XO's complete with Zilch Nutz!! :D

For a better perspective of size...

This is more than likely going to be a temporary solution (front baffle and porting). Hopefully will give me an idea as to what these driver can do in a smallish BR cabinet using more or less the tuning suggested by AN.

1st listen will be today.

Nice! Are the vents only baffle-thick and what's Fb as such?

Thanks! Although there are different ways to approach it, AN/Commonsense Audio seems to promote the use of their AN drivers in BR cabs. These were modeled after their Mini cab which is @ .9 cu-ft with a single 3" port and 3/4" baffle depth.

I played around with the parameters in WinIsd and settled on this just to get them up and running until I finalize things. Commonsense Audio does provide driver parameters but after speaking back and forth with David Dicks a bit, I get the impression that he doesn't put to much stock in parameters derived from speaker testing software so he doesn't provide in-cabinet specs.

I'd run them through WT myself but my software is kaput. Driver parameters can be found here:

I went with the standard stamped basket version but they provide options for cast basket, Alnico and Neo motors.

Here's my rendition of johnnyrichards from the parts express tech talk forum's Rompicollos project. They use an 8" buyout woofer and a 1/2" mylar waveguide loaded tweeter. This was my first project, so there are some blemishes, but boy do they sound good. They do not have a finish on them, and probably will not until the weather warm up. When I do though, I will be attempting a faux sunburst finish

Nice forgotten!
Here's mine. These are a variation on Chris Roemer's ntns. They are a voight pipe style and have bass well into the 40s. Impressive for 4" drivers.

I took them to the InDIYana event last year and had quite a few favorable reviews. I will be taking a new small 2way and possibly a rebuilt JBL L100 pair this year

Just finished them tonight :D

Nice guys! I just picked up a very good looking pair of JBL L100 cabinets from a friend. I have all the drivers already and will be doing the upgraded crossovers as well. I also have a couple of ideas for increasing the cabinet size and running them as sealed. I will be posting pics as progress allows.

What are those little black drivers? They look exactly like a these 3 inch Aurasounds I am about to do something with.
