That leads me to a Sony TA-8650, indeed yes he has some cool things there, but not -as far as i can see- these very nice tae-86 or tc-k88.

The 86 combo is fairly easy to find on the german eBay: TA-E86B preamp and TA-N86B Class A power amp and both are true bargains given what they go for.
There are two N86Bs on the US eBay at the moment, located in Canada.

The TC-K88B is a little more rare outside Japan but not that hard to find - keeping in mind that the "no ICs" policy of the 86 units doesn't apply to it and that spare parts are now... gone. Minters only if one wants to avoid troubles.

The "B" suffix only stands for the color: E86B= gun-metal grey, E86 = silver.

First off, that is a great looking set, what would these lovely units set me back? Daon't seem to find any on ebay.
Secondly, I love these kind of threads so I'll just add my 2 cents (just try to ignore all the Pioneer gear )

For us folks who know vintage Sony, it is easy to ignore Pioneer.

Oh I had also a STR-6055 and the matching tapedeck. I found the built quality poor compared to Pioneer and sold it fast.
And I have revived my CDP-101 back to life recently. So maybe a good VFET amp could turn my oppinion, but I dont have one until now.

you have to try and error on both companies sony, pioneer to find the goddies
the best thing for me until now was audioresearch, mcintosh but prices are high

There's a Sony SSG7 in my favourite thrift shop. Someone mentioned this speaker as comparable to the NS1000m in this thread. Can anyone clarify because, i'd run after that Sony if this is true.

Considering what you are getting, the prices of most ARC and McIntosh is no high at all. An ARC SP3 series destroys the Marantz 7 and cost is only about 1/3. The ARC is based on the 7's circuit and I've always thought that had Saul been a bit smarter and updated the 7 rather than moving to the 7t he'd have ended up with the SP3. Some Mc stuff is selling below the price of similar "hot" collectible ss gear or close to it. Others are selling for less than some items. Mc for years was considered the R-R of audio but surprisingly it was never the most expensive out there when new by a long margin.

Nope, the last database update occurred last night, Wardsweb posted a warning on the front page beforehand saying all posts put up afterwards would be lost. If you must have access to the old posts, navigate to the old server and snag the info quick before it goes away forever.

My post from earlier got lost, so for what it is worth!! Here is my newly re-discovered STR-6200F. I Bought it new in 1972, then loaned it out to my step-father. It has been in storage for 20+ years. I got it out yesterday and cleaned it up a bit. It fired right off and seems like everything but the dial light works. I don't have a way to test the phono inputs though.
