I've added today to my collection another preamp for the Falcon series, this time in "B" version: TAE-20FB.
Indeed, for the Falcon series, Sony stuck to the old TAE-xx and TAN-xx names instead of the newer TA-Exx and TA-Nxx...
My cellphone's camera holds it back completely but the finish and colour are magnificent: very dark gunmetal like the N86 or E88 but about 3 or 4 stops lower with beautiful anodization. The flap holds the bass/treble/balance/ mono/stereo/reverse pots plus loudness and 20Hz low filter switches ; the phono MC switch is at the far right.
You can see the complete Falcon stack on page #70 of this thread.
I'll post here more new units soon, and much more high-end, too, but I'll keep you hanging off the suspense cliff for another couple of weeks !

Well, the other options I have are either my 4x5" Sinar Norma or my 8x10" Sinar P2. I could also do an 8x10" Polaroid or use my last remaining Hasselblad, neither of which would prove faster I'm afraid 
I'll try to borrow my ex-assistant's digital thingie this summer to make fairly elaborate images of my Sonys. Not as fine as with an 8x10" but... much cheaper and quite faster.

The silver Falcons are quite rare, the "B" versions of them are very rare.
If I trust the serial numbers on my units, Sony produced plenty, really plenty but where they all went and now reside is a mystery.
There were four different racks for them (unobtainium) and the terribly cute PS-10/20/F/FB turntables which I would love to have to complete these two sets of mine.

My Sony SS-G333ES from Japan arrived today. They were incredibly well packed (thank you Hifi Do !), and they don't have a scratch and work perfectly.
Unfortunately, customs and shipping combined were a staggering $850, which I had not really anticipated, but oh well, I do have a pretty exclusive pair of speakers now, that simply sound divine
Damn things are freakin' huge! (for my standards anyway), and heavy as hell. 32kg each.
Will post pictures later, first gotta try to integrate them into my interior.

Well, in euro it was only (ahem) 620 (which is about $850)... which ofcourse includes the shipping, which was about 270 or so, all the rest is taxes, import, VAT, whatever they try to sell to you as handling costs etc. It makes me sick... And then there is ofcourse still the purchasing price... on top of that.
But anyway, they sound magnificent... can't play them too loud yet because gf is resting, just home from the hospital. They seem to sound a bit more composed than the SS-G4, cleaner with better highs. They also image a lot better. At low volumes there seems to be enough of everything, and it is very listenable.

I've been toying with the idea of getting more sony gear. I have had a lot over the years but have pruned the collection back to a couple of shortwave radios and a shelf system. It would make sense that sony receivers would have good tuners as they have had a lot of expertise in that area.
I used to own an ST-A6B. Shouldn't have sold it as it was hand-down the best FM tuner I've ever had my hands on, and I've felt up quite a few. It's blown away everything I've heard regarding FM quieting and selectivity. Just saw a nice one go for $362.87 on ebay.

Perfect job Kristof, you are I think the first getting something very big by conventional ways from Japan hi-fi jeil. While I was watching japan yahoo auctions, I always felt we all are living on a lonely galaxy rather than the same earth.

Mesut, I have to agree with you, when I think of Japan I always feel like a kid in a candy store, so many great things there, hifi and technology wise, but so far away and almost unreachable if not only in distance but also in price (as I witnessed).

That's what I did (in April). Never heard from them. This is too funny. Just checked HiFiDo - the frequency board that I ordered (or rather tried to order) is still listed. Exact same part #.

I have to say, now that you mention it, that I never got their first confirmation mail either. So then I wrote them and after some email conversation and confirmation, they charged my card and sent the goods. So it might be worth to give another shot

After playing around with them a bit, I have to say that they are definitely not as forgiving to bad source material as the SS-G4 which tells me that they are not holding back as much info as the G4's. The SS-G4 sound great with anything, these are more picky. Bass is less present too, but much cleaner and deeper.
Hope I can find me a pair of those WS-333 stands for them, because right now they are a bit too low by the ground to be ideal.
