SONY PS-X6 automatic functions

Hi all,

This is another ps-x6 post. My old tt recently quit with auto lead in and return of the tonearm. It did function fully the last couple of years. Only manual movement of the tonearm is possible and the tonearm rest is in the down position, doesn't come up. Also when you press start the motor starts turning, but when you press it again, it won't stop.

I first thought it was due to old caps not flicking the transistor circuits, so recapped the whole thing but still no auto functions.

Checked all voltages according to the service manual and they seem to be fine.

So I thought maybe it is the lubrication of the mechanism and the s3 and s4 switch which dont get touched by the levers.

The thing is. I have absolutely no idea how to get to the bottem plate mechanisms after I've removed the bottom cover and where to start cleaning and lubricating. I have all manuals of the device but it isn't clear to me.

What do you experts think and could you please give me some tips and advise on the situation.

All right so today I got together some courage and disassembled the whole thing. Cleaned everything and lubricated it with liqui moly LM 47.
Put everything together. Still doesnt want to auto lead in and auto return. But I found out that with the power on. I can move the lever with the solenoid on it, this will engage the automatic functions. So it has something to do with the solenoid circuit for energizing and de energizing.

Anyone an expert on this topic?

The start stop button does start the turntable spinning when I press it, also the led comes on if I press it, the only thing that doesn't happen is the auto lead in of the tone arm. And the turn table won't stop when I press the start stop button again, but the led goes out.

Yo al conectar el encendido y pulsar start/stop se enciende el led y el brazo si está en automático va al inició, luego al pulsar stop ya no hace nada , tengo que apagar power off y esperar unos minutos entonces al volver a encender el botón start/stop funciona pero sin funcionar la función stop

The arm does not move when I press start/stop.

-El brazo tiene unas piezas de plástico que se accionan y son las encargadas de mover el brazo, también la leva con la que indicamos los tamaños del disco incluso la función manual, tiene una pieza de plástico que se agrieta entonces da igual lo que seleccionamos pues está pieza al estar rota no mueve la selección del disco y no actúa, son 4 tornillos lo que sujeta la pieza con la botonera de power y botones start/stop y repetir, accede a ella y comprueba que no esté rota está pieza
En las fotos tienes las piezas de plástico que mueven el selector del disco y el brazo ...

As said earlier, the plastic parts are all completely intact. So this is not the problem. I think it's electrical.

_las funciones automáticas llevan una leva que se acciona por un solenoide, cuando recibe corriente está leva hace contacto con la corona de dientes que hay en el eje del motor, tanto para start/stop como retroceso del brazo al llegar al final del disco de vinilo. (figura 1-2), aquí puede estar el problema eléctrico
(Perdona puede que algún mensaje lo he pasado por alto donde te refieres a que las piezas de plástico están intactas), intenta verificar solenoide
Ajusta voltaje de la placa en 14v, para ir eliminando fallos eléctricos ,puede que algún condensador electrolito este llegando a su vida útil esto puede producir un fallo en cascada al no llegar el voltaje correcto al siguiente elemento

Thank you for your help. So I changed all capacitors, electrolytic and non electrolytic. But there is an issue. On the 14v adjustment point I get a reading of 22 volt dc. Checked all voltages from the power transformer. They seem good. All capacitors are good. 4k7 Trimmer of the adjustment point works well. But can't get the voltage down to 14volt. Can't this be a broken diode or transistor on the power board?

Whether or not, if you've recapped everything anyway, it won't hurt to check that all the diodes on the power board are functioning correctly. I see only about 8 on there, including the four for the rectifier. Easy check to do, although you probably need to unsolder one leg of each diode from the board to run the check.

Can you send me a link to this thread? Can anyone explain me the 14v regulator circuit from the transformer to the trimpot? Must be a fault in that chain.

So I found that q101 was faulty and replaced it with an original 2sc1061. Now I'm getting 1.8volts at the 14v point. If I turn the adjustment pot it will only go lower. Also voltage to the strobe light went from 180v to 240v,changed cap 106 and the rectifier diode to the bulb, but no change. I'm running out of ideas. Could it be a faulty zener diode q105? Is the light bulb supply voltage dependent on the voltage going to the rest of board?

-No la bombilla neón se alimenta desde otro bobinado en USA , aquí en Europa lleva 2 transformadores 1 para la placa y uno pequeño para el neon
Ayer comprobado voltajes hice puente entre terminal 24 negro y 21 naranja y ahora el voltaje de 14v ha pasado a 17v , me toca buscar dónde ha producido el fallo tras el puente
