I think the speakers are rectangular, and the cap just has some weird radiusing to keep you from putting your plants on it

Nope, I'm wrong. Hmmm... Do have a DCM flair about them.

If they're Definitives, the top caps are wrong, although they could be homemade replacements (but why different colors?). And are you sure those are the same speakers as the first pic? The first one shows caps the same color, plus some non 90-degree angles, whereas the second pic shows a rectangular tower.

Yes, there is a little bit of an optical illusion going on in the first pic. I believe the black veneer has come unglued to the top caps.

One other thing that argues against them being Definitives is that the logo appears to be attached to the plinth. With older Definitives, the logo was always (at least for every picture that I could find) attached to the bottom of the grill cloth.
