I'm probably wrong, but I don't think they're KLH 23's.

Here's a couple photos for comparison.

I think the KLH 23 idea may be correct, but I can't tell if the decorative molding around the edge of the front is stepped like the KLHs or whether its a raised lip on either side of a wide flat bottomed groove. If you look at the bottom of the speaker, it almost looks like the lip comes together at the bottom, and that the grill may or may not actuall go to the floor.

I was looking at the 1961 Radio Shack catalog in bed last night (What? Is that -- unusual in some way??) and saw a speaker that I thought looked an awful lot like the one in question. I believe it was called the "Trio" (not to be confused with h/k or Kenwood's "Trio" brands). I can post a scan if anyone's interested.

Interesting - I see Sleddogman's photos and come to the exact opposite conclusion (that it is a KLH 23). Think lighter colored grills, also off but not sitting out at the bottom so far as the ones in his picture. The grill cutouts and molding detail match.

Edit: Or, I mean...am. I am.

I tend to agree, (KLH-23) I have a set, and they match the look and dimensions closely. Even the grill cover shadowing in both posted pics match.

The first pic looks a little wider, but that could be the pic angle and optical illusion, as the dimensions do match. :scratch2:

Will we ever know? :deal:

thanks for all the info, guys. i emailed the "giver" (they were free) and they were gone...:(
