Link please. A google search for "Big List of Defunct Audio Manufacturers" did not turn up anything with that name, but it did turn up a list at AudioTools.

That's the one, the Defunct Audio Manufacturers list. I just like to call it the Big List since it is the most comprehensive I've seen anywhere. Really the only list worth mentioning.

Oh, I'm going to get them, I was just trying to find info. I've never seen that nameplate/brand before. Not expecting high-end gear, considering she also has a Knight amp and tuner and some small 90's Advents. I am curious as to what model the Pioneer speakers are. There's also a pile of cassette decks, DVD players, etc. I told her I would take it all and donate what I can't use.

That Knight stuff is sought after tube equipment! You just got hooked up! And if those Pioneers CS are the A models you really got hooked up! Myself and I'm sure many others would pay good money for the Knight stuff!

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss that Knight gear. They made some very nice tube gear and there are many folks that would love to have it.

I had a Knight tube amplifier and got rid of it quick as I was afraid its innate junkiness would contaminate my system !! If that sounds disrespect it was intentional !!

Maybe the one you have works fine as it is. I couldn't find a schematic for mine so that contributed to my 'let's just start all over' approach.

Perhaps the issue that it had was that it was a piece of crap ??

Perhaps I am guilty of being too glib. The main beef I had against it is that its bass output was LESS than the bass output of the speakers it was driving. This is the only time I have experienced that, and to me that means is doesn't even rate the high fidelity label. Another problem was when you turned the switch from phones to speakers, and you happened to still be wearing the phones, you were in for a painful and perhaps dangerous ear blast. The big gripe I have against home brands is that many if not most, and certainly Knight, do not have predictable quality. They usually have OEM companies make their stuff, and it can range from quality comparable to the competition (rarely) to substandard (commonly). Knight did sometimes have good stuff (some of their speakers were Jensen's, and some may have been made by Altec) but buying Knight was a crap shoot. Maybe you have had better luck.

I found that the preamp section was the source of most of the problems. I don't recall a problem with bass rolloff when I used it with Advent/2 speakers, but the there was just lots of noise/hiss/hum which I could not get rid of even after replacing most all the caps and resistors.

The power amp section is not unlike any number of pretty good EL-84 amps, and my completed power-amp-only version is most definitely hi-fi. The OPTs don't do much below 40hz or so but that's good enough for most music.

But I never did find a schematic for the thing, a not-uncommon problem for Knight gear.

You must have had a better model, tho having all those preamp problems isn't a good sign. Back when I had tube gear I noticed that tubes themselves could be the source of noise.

On the Filip speakers, I'm guessing the tweeters are not original. The baffle is routed for a round tweeter with a single wire connection tab (the small cresent cutout).

You can't get a Knight schematic because Knight (or Allied) did not make their own gear, but farmed it out to XYZ to do it as cheaply as possible, while maintaining cosmetic parity with its perceived competition. Not here to knock your gear, I guess I am still pissed for having anything second rate in my system. I will confess,,,,, I bought it used for peanuts, almost 50 years ago, but still.....
