Picked this Stanton 681EEE on a TT at an estate sale. The ground strap? id outside the cart body. Does it to be and can it be inserted back in the cart body?

looks like someone pulled it and re-installed on the pin so it didn't get lost. A good move, considering I've pulled two and have no idea where either got to basically immediately after removing the strap.

but for connection it really needs to be stuffed between the outer metal shell and the plastic where the pins come out. With the plastic mounting ear / nut things you generally do not need to pull the strap. If its not humming i wouldn't get concerned about it, but if you do have a hum problem re-installing the strap may fix it.

I just pulled the tab and put it back in the cart shell. Sounded fine, either way. I'm assuming it is a generic stylus as it has no markings. probably should have passed. Was on a Technics SL-B2 TT.

From your pic it would look like that 681EEE is mounted via those plastic mounting adaptors, which should prevent a conductive connection between the headshell and the metal mounting bracket & generator shell of your 681EEE. Hence it would seem wiser to have the grounding strap installed, so that the generator shell is grounded via one of the signals grounds. Whereas if there would be a conductive connection between the headshell and the mounting bracket & generator shell, it would be wiser to remove the ground strap to prevent a ground loop (due to double grounding via both the separate headshell, tonearm and chassis/drive ground and one of the signal grounds).

Greetings from Munich!
