Don't know if there's another live band that pays closer attention to live sound than The Dan. Heard 'em in an arena & it sounded like God's Own Stereo. They're something not to be missed.
My girl hates them too When ever I put on some Steely Dan, she asks me to play something else, or she leaves the room. I would love to see them live, even if I have to go by myself:yes:

Ooohh.....that might be a deal breaker for me. Love the Dan....my chick is gonna get a healthy dose around me so she better enjoy them too....and thank goodness she does.
Man, why do you cats think your gals can't stand them? I mean, the later stuff has some tasty, very danceable grooves.....just that alone usually makes a tune at least tolerable to a chick. And the songs' storylines are very social chic....like a sitcom or movie. Have they heard the newer stuff...from "Two Against Nature" or "Everything Must Go"? I know the music can be very cerebral, but most all of it is still accessible to the average listener. It's not like we're talking about Rush thmbsp or Dream Theater thumbsdn. And unlike those bands, the concerts aren't a sausage fest. Plenty of chicks there shakin' ass and boogie n' down. If your gals can't stand Dan, what does float their boat? Given the sad state of pop music and the deluge of garbage that we're getting (just an opinion...but I'm certainly not alone), I'm always trying to keep my finger on the pulse of what people are diggin' and why.
My girl says Steely Dan gives her a headache. Not sure why that would be. But, it could be I played alot of Aja at the beginning of our relationship, and that has soured her. She is a big Queensryche fan, and also loves The Blackeyed Peas (Which I barely tolorate)

Queensryche and Peas....very interesting. I'll give her a :thmbsp: on the Queensryche since that's usually not a band that chicks digest easily. Although they are one of the more accessible melodic prog metal bands. Blackeyed Peas...almost a given for a (reasonably young) chick to like them.
You could be doing much worse....at least it's not Gaga or Timberlake or ....good lord, I start to wince and twitch just thinking about any of that stuff.

My wife was in the "meh" category regarding The Dan...until she saw them live. Watching her tear up during the opening "movement" of AJA was well-worth the $85 a ticket.
We were at Ravinia too (in the pavilion), The show exceeded my expectation by a wide margin; I'd heard bad things about their shows back in the 70s. Becker made some comments about friction in the band they toured with then (i.e. they wanted to party and pick up women more than play music) that could explain the poor performances I'd heard about.
Anyway, if you get the chance, see them this time around.
Going to see 'the Dan' this weekend up in Milwaukee. Saw them at the Chicago Theater in 2009 and loved the concert, as did my wife. She never realized how many songs they had that she liked.
