SX-1010 won't Power On...

Man, this has been a saga. I really hope you guys get that 1010 sorted out soon. I've been following this thread for a while now and I must applaud both of you for your perserverance.

Markthefixer helped me with an sx-1010 power supply problem once and I can tell you that is expertise in vintage pioneer is second to none. You're in good hands D.E.K.:thmbsp:

Keep up the good work boys.

I went through the list yet again. Everything seems pretty clear except a few notes in brackets:

Q8 512-KSC2682YSTU [180v .1a 1.2/8w 200mhz 100-320hfe] $0.31 (preferred, the current is below 0.1 amp)
He meant this transistor is well chosen and will work even though it may be lower than original transistor spec in current because in circuit use is less than 100ma (0.1 amp).

C1,C2 647-UPW1H2R2MDD [2.2uf 50v] $0.14 (no lower voltage)
There's no lower voltage option to order from Mouser for 2.2uf

C15,C16,C31,C32,C23,C24,C39,C40 647-UPW1H4R7MDD [4.7uf 50v $0.14] (25v was $0.13)
A price quote from Mouser for a 25 volt and 50 volts version of 4.7uf capacitor.
C25,C26,C41,C42 647-UPW1V100MDD [10uf 35v] $0.11 (2 cents more to get 16v)

It will cost you 2 cents more to get a capacitor 16 volts version than a 35 volts version from Mouser for 10uf.

I know what he meant :lmao:
What I wanted to know was:

Should I get the 50V or 25V for 647-UPW1H4R7MDD?

and

Should I get 35V or 16V for the 647-UPW1V100MDD ?

When Mark gets through with this thread you will be able to send DEK a box of parts and he'll build an SX-1010.

You can get both depending on how many of each you need. But you can get all of higher voltage (50v instead of any 25v and 35v instead of any 16v) without harm if there's no space issue(I wouldn't see any space problem). I was a little picky so I selected what voltage I need with an exception of any less than 10uf to be 50v. Any above to be a little more picky. That's me. I have the SX-1010 capacitor list but it's on my other computer. If you want, I can check it out for you.

the 647-UPW1H4R7MDD is the 50v part, in the control amp there is a mix of 4.7uf caps specified at 25v and 35v, with 25v and 50v parts available, and for ease of ordering and because the difference in cost for getting some 25v parts and some 50v parts (for the ones that need 35v rating) was only a penny apiece. Plus the need to separate the two voltages and keep track of them with the possibility of error or confusion in putting a 25v part in a 35v location figured into my thoughts - as in a little insurance. You've got enough on your mind already... why add to it if I don't have to?

the 647-UPW1V100MDD is the 35v part, which was 2 cents CHEAPER than the 16v part. There are no voltage issues at those positions that would prompt me to use a higher voltage capacitor.

See, there IS quite a bit of thought given to parts lists I generate....
(too bad my skills are more commercially viable in China.....)

Okay, so I will order exactly what you have in your list. Not yet though. When I am ready to order I will let you know. I am making my own little list right now, adding a few extras here and there. I might finish it tonight.

Mark the following part is backordered with the factory lead time of 13 weeks:

C10, C11 100uf (63v) 100v 647-UPW2A101MHD $0.87 ea

However, there is the 647-UPS2A101MHD (http://ca.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?qs=sGAEpiMZZMsCnlYck6hSqMOhY6QKV7zL9mkXoC8ZXPU=) In Stock with the exact specs. Would that do?

Nichicon UPW or UHE caps, so:

647-UHE2A101MPD 100uf 100v $0.32

otherwise I'll have to re - investigate the differences, to see where the UPS series fits on the spectrum.....

I suspect this was a popular cap, and was made in quantity thus the discount.

Mark, what about the UPM series? I have wondered about that.

I don't remember all the factors that went into the decisions back then - they have a boatload of caps with specs squared. A lot of downloads of specifications. And not easy to compare... I think I walked around like a zombie for a while back then.

Then after making the decisions, seeing that my results paralleled EchoWar's existing recommendations.

Then there are the usual limitations, 105 degree c (what is the LOW temp, there are differences) radial or axial leads, low impedance (switching supplies- less internal heating?) , leakage groaaaaannnnnnnn......

Mark, what about the UPM series? I have wondered about that.
If I recall correctly the UPM are the same as the UPW but in the miniature series. When I order I go for the UPW and if a value is not available I then try the UPM. Mark I know what you mean on checking the specs URGHHH....

Just checked the UPM comparison to upw. Mark, when you gave a little detail what to look for, I see why upw is chosen. UPW is not only smaller version of UPM but a little different as well. Datasheet didn't say UPM is made for Switching power supplies along with some other differences, would it still be sufficient for receiver's standard power supply and protection circuit application?

Mark, shortly I will let you know with the extras (not extra units, just extra quantities of the existing units) I added to my cart. Then you can tell me if there are others you want me to add.

First off, I replaced 647-UPW2A101MHD [100uf (63v) 100v] with 647-UHE2A101MPD [100uf (63v) 100v]

The rest are in exact quantities. If there are any more you'd like me to order or if there are any overkills among those above, please let me know.

You have it more than covered. Probably be able to fix a few other Pioneers along the way with the extras. :D

Nice... So this order is a GO? No good to say "oh sh@*! forgot to order this and that"

There's ALWAYS a chance of an "oh sh@*!", the only sure way to avoid it is to have another complete 1010 sitting around. But there are limits....

The order is a GO.

Nice thread. Good work D.E.K. Definitely an inspiration for me to break out the soldering iron and get to work on those old projects I've been ignoring..
