I know this is an older thread but just picked up one of these and except for some signal noise and low output that comes and goes (dirty relays) it looks okay.

Also curious about the final results you said you were going to post about??

Did you have any thruput issues that you corrected and if so, was it correctedvia cleaning just the relays or was something else the source of the problem?

I had no problems with noise coming and going before or after the work I did.

The pre-amp sounds so much better now, I put this down to carefully selection of capacitor replacements, and significantly the replacement transistors, I consider the removed transistors to be counterfeits put in by the previous owner, who was presumably unaware and was seeking an 'upgrade' by changing them.

I had no throughput issues, the only thing to note is that when turned on it always selects 'Tuner' input, this is a default setting by design. I just wish it were possible to select any input desired at power on by the use of an internal jumper block or similar. I didn't have to change or clean any of the relays but I did buy a full set of replacements because I read that these relays can be troublesome, I haven't fitted any of the replacements yet. Personally I think if any relay has got to the stage where you need to clean the contacts, it very likely needs changing for a new one, particularly so in the case of signal relays. (Note: I used the relays I originally bought for this in my AU-X1).

Currently working on a C-2102 with thruput issues. Signals are fine then another instance they drop out. It seems to be either dirty relays or contacts orpossible a combination of the two.

I would also like to explore the possible upgrade of the pre-amp as I have found some reports about a few cap swaps that greatly improve the sound stage and clarity of the mid and top end.


Where did you get the relays from? Also do you remember what those 13 relays cost?

Hey John I am recapping my C2102 and was told to get Nichicon UPW for the PS and thought maybe something else would be better or at least maybe you could tell me why C10 , C11 are different from C2, C3 are the Chemi Con AWD brown ones in C10 & C11 low ESR . Hard for me to tell what you used in yours . Im a novice at best . Had good success with my citation 17 and my C2 Basic . The C2 I bought the kit from DRM . Hope all is well and I enjoy reading your input on everything and have the upmost respect for your contributions on the board !
