I have to do this fix for my SL-Q2. The cover does fit in the hinges, but one if half way broken. The hinges are also weak, so they don't actually hold the cover up. So I guess I have two issues.
I tried this fix on my Technics dust cover. One of the plastic tabs had broken off, but the other one was intact. I noticed that the original tab was attached to the cover such that there was a gap where the cover met the turntable, and it didn't actually contact the surface. After having installed the new aluminum tab, the dust cover wouldn't sit properly on the turntable. So, I filed a small notch where the tab meets the table, probably not even 1/32" deep. The notch now allows the dust cover to seat perfectly without having to make any adjustments to the hinge.

did anyone find that the 7/8" tongue length was too long?
My D2 cover measures about 5/8". From inside of cover to end of tongue.

The "subject" of my experiment was a D3, same dustcover as the D2. I made a second set for a Q3 after that and didn't have to modify the design.
Is it possible that you're mounting the new pieces on the outside of the dustcover? That would necessitate them being shorter.

I measured from inside to end of tongue. I'll continue measuring as I go along.
If I find its too long I can cut it off. But to start I will use your dims.
I just finished sawing off the broken tongue.
Next is cutting the bracket and drilling holes. Tomorrow.

It occurs to me that we have a 1/8" discrepancy and a material thickness of 1/8". If I was measuring from the "front" side of the new tongue and you're measuring from the "back" (the side that actually contacts the dustcover) that could explain the difference. In all honesty, I can't remember and, sadly, the two tables I did this to are long gone.
I'll re-read the first part of the thread and see if I can figure out what I was talking about.

If you were to measure the tongues after installation by measuring them along the bottom, it should be 7/8".

I encountered the same prob as ''dispair'' did with the need to remove material from the under the tongue to clear the TT base when closed. No one else had this prob?
Looking at the ''good'' tongue you can see how it is raised/lowered(?) abit.
I ended up buying 4' of 1" alum angle 1/8" thick from OSH $15. I tried cutting some stock I had but just didnt like the results. the 1" angle fits the bill. I'll post pics of the job when done. both before assembly and after.
