Technics SL 1200 MK2

Replace the DJ nail with a nude elliptical (some good options at VOM) and enjoy the music.

Mat is not original, I would replace it with original 6mm SFTG172-01 / RGS0010. Lubricate spindle with Anderol 465 (available from KAB) and yes - at least stylus should be replaced. However i would replace Pickering XV-15 Micro IV with something better. DJ Stanton can not be upgraded.

Very nice, but man I’ve got to know where you’re shopping. This iconic turntable, plus a $70 Mac 1900 - what else did you grab

I am in Saint Petersburg Fl. For some reason the estate companies here don't seam to know anything about vintage stereo gear. On black Friday I picked up a Marantz 2275 for $30 that works great. Florida is a great place for vintage gear.

Nice find. Perus the Sl1200 owners thread. It's a long one. KAB Accoustics web site has maintenance info, tips and upgrade parts for SL1200 series. Of course there are Utube.videos on maintenance. They are often aimed at DJs. And suggest removing ground wire? May want to ignore that.

Depending on your end use and budget for it. You could consider a fluid damper down road. And possibly a new spindle thrust plate with melted wax block under it.

I found a MK2 last year. They are pretty straight forward to work on. Once past all the screws on bottom cover. Or, platter from top.
Do read on KAB or else where, Best way to remove platter. Without possibly doing trama to it's bearing.
It's the most user friendly manual table I've played with.
Enjoy,

Is this guy in Tampa selling things off, if so I’m on my way!

That is actually 2 blocks from my house. I walk my dog past it every day. It's Bananas Records. He has a separate warehouse where he sells vintage gear. I stop in there all the time. Here is the address to it. 2243 16th Ave N, St. Petersburg, FL 33713. And some personal pics I have taken when I have stopped in.

Enjoy,

Where is the Sl1200 owners thread? I can't find it. Could you post a link. Thanks

Never mind. I found it

Here it is. It's a lot of pages.

Thanks. I just got done giving it a test. I hooked it up to my Marantz 2275 and it plays and sounds great. I see nothing that would need to be done to this. Maybe some preventive maintenance but it plays great as is. And that is with the Stanton DJ cart.

IMO,
Do remove platter to oil spindle bearing soon. Index fingers of each hand in platter holes. Both thumbs over spindle shaft. Gently push with fingers toward spindle. While down with thumbs. From KAB site.

I don't remember the official recommended oil. I used KAB supplied oil, which is original spec. Somewhere is spec in these threads. I have used 3 in 1 motor oil in verious tables. Opinions vary.

Do replace stylus, if not certain of how worn it is. Check stylus overhang, VTF, VTA, and Azmith.

I use a generic 3mm rubber mat I got at Wally World. And 3mm rubber/cork underneath. This to get VTA within 6mm adjustment range. Depending on your cart's height. Or could use headshell spacer as/if needed.
Enjoy.

Thanks, I will definitely oil the spindle. I already own a roll of the rubber/cork mat so I will cut one to fit. I have lots of different carts I can try on this. I own about 14 different Turntables. Empire, Pioneer, Lenco, AR, Technics and more. This is my first 1200 though.

You know your way around TTs.
When posting here. We often don't know what knowledge the OP has. First table or 14th?

I took it apart and oiled the spindle bearing. where the spindle sits on the washer at the bottom looked pretty nice. The spot where it sits didn't look warn out at all. I am going to say this was ether very well taken care of or just not used much. The tone arm bearings are nice and tight. And the Pitch slider is smooth tight also. I don't think a DJ ever touched this one. I watched a video that talked about the 2 different type sliders and this one has the better newer type. Oh and according to another site this was made in March of 1990
