Technics sl-23 for cheap

I just bought an SL 23 for $15 at a bid to buy store. The platter doesn't spin but it does power on. Replacing the belt seems like a cheap enough fix... is this a decent Technics turntable?

I had a similar problem with my SL-23, I put a little light machine oil on the motor and then turned the motor by hand with the power applied, and that did the trick.

By the way I let run that way for about hour without the belt, applying a drop or two along the way.

goodluck

Edit...After rereading your initial post, if a new belt doesn't fix your problem, the above may apply.

I bought an SL-23 new in 1976. Put a new belt on it, cleaned the speed adjustment pots with Deoxit and installed a new cartridge. She still plays like a charm. You did well on your purchase.

Also, when referring to Technics in person, is it pronounced tech-nicks or tech-neeks? I've heard people say both!

Here is the proper pronunciation in context, "My smooth techniques with the ladies is a sure fire way to get slapped!!" :-)

I think that I've heard them called 'Techniques' more often around these parts...East Coast U.S...
Saying that you've just bought a Tech Nic has always sounded a bit White Van...
