I pronounce it "tekniks" because it is Technics. If it were to be pronounced "tekneeks" I would expect the spelling to be Techniques. Different spellings, different words. At least in my head. Lol.

.... I went home, sat on the couch with my kids, turned on Disney and woke up at 6:30 am (par for the course here). Had to shoot to one of my offices before they open then off to a 4 hour carpet job, then bowling in city tourney and then IU plays at 8:30! Hopefully I'll get to look at it after my busy day!

Oh, so you have a life. :yes: When I was raising my three kids my TT and record collection were boxed up in the basement. Now that is changed and they are grown and gone. The CD, DVD, MP3 era has subsided and vinyl is back.
The TT will be there later.

Yeah my girls are 3 and 6. Fun times! They are polar opposites but my youngest LOVES most of the music I do so it's fun.

Okay may be a stupid question but how does this turn on? I plug it in, turn the dial to 33 and it does nothing. I pulled the mat off of the platter and there isn't a belt present at all. Still I thought I would be able to hear something running under there.Edit: okay I found out how to turn it on! Here are s few pics of the area where the belt should be and the cart.

The belt drive motor is likely activated when arm is moved to record. Pull platter off of spindle and check for belt. You should see the pulley for the belt. When you move the arm in toward the spindle the pulley should turn, i.e. motor is running.
I don't have this take but they all have a similar design.

Pulled off the platter. I assume this is what's left of the belt. Basically disintegrated.... gooey and falls apart to the touch. Pulled the arm over the platter and the pulley turns on with a loud high pitched hum.
If the round brass thingy does not turn (touch it as Balifly suggested) when you move the tonearm to the left, the motor has seized from lack of lubrication. I had exactly that issue with an SL-23 a week or so ago and have seen it on other Technics.
However it doesn't mean it's dead. Add a couple of drops of oils on the shaft below that brass thing and work & spin the pulley by hand. If the motor will spin on its own, do this anyway. It should be oiled periodically but not have been in at least 25 years!

Ok, good. It does spin at least. Add some oil as I suggested and let it turn for several minutes, maybe longer. Add a couple more drops and let it run again. I bet it will quiet it down.
You need a 23.6" belt. It's pretty much the Technics standard. The surface where the belt was should be cleaned thoroughly of the gooey belt but also rub it with a something like a green 3M scouring pad to get it nice and smooth.
Don't get oil on the pulley surface and clean it too with the scouring pad.

Thanks I'll clean it up and add some oil. I got on eBay and ordered a couple belts for around $19 total. It described them add belts for the sl19, sl23 and sl235.
