Hot Rocks is the classic gateway into the Stones, but for a bit weirder path I've always been fond of the U.S. version of Through the Past, Darkly (Big Hits Vol. 2).

Steve Miller Band Greatest Hits 1974-78 would be on my list for sure.

New Order Substance comes to mind, especially because New Order usually released singles separate from albums.

Stevie Ray Vaughan had two GREAT collections, "Greatest Hits" and "Greatest Hit Vol. 2 - the Real Deal". Two CDs crammed full without a clunker to be found. Likewise CCR with "Chronicle" and "Chrocicle 2"

Don't bother, it was a 'tongue in cheek' title Throbbing Gristle bestowed on their third album, which is filled with an assortment of ambient and industrial "noise" rock. OTOH, you might find some of TG's stuff interesting if you've not heard it before. There are probably a few numbers, if not the entire album, @ utoob.

In that vein, The Cockney Rejects named their first 2 records Greatest Hits Vol 1 and Greatest Hits Vol 2. Which, at the time of their release, was probably true.

Makes sense....Eagles were outstanding song writers and musicians.
