The Best Greatest hits album of all time?

[tomcatmixd]

Great thread, and a topic close to my heart.

Lots of favorites (and some surprises) in the Best of the 'Best of' thread, from last year...

For me, it's Jimi Hendrix' Smash Hits. Helped me survive high school.

These are good.

XTC- Fossil Fuel

Best of Talking Heads. remastered by Bob Ludwig, sounds "punchier" than the originals.

This is nice too.

No mention of The Stones 40 Licks which has a couple of new clunkers on it but as a greatest hits pack it pretty good. Led Zep's Mothership is good too, remastered for the upteenth time.

True , a box set , but this had so much unreleased material at the time , it was great .

The Beatles
Both RED & BLUE
Sorry I had to drop the trump card on this one.

Nice try but that card was already played in post # 8.

It was mentioned but So Far by CSNY was my favourite album for a long time. Jethro Tull's M.U. was another great one.

Also here are not one but two favourites from Al Green

While more of a "sampler" than "best of" or "hits collection" (charting was not yet in the cards), but a nonetheless fine compilation:

Richard Thompson
(guitar, vocal)
Island, 1976

A Young Person's Guide To King Crimson

Mike Oldfield The Complete

A Young Person's Guide To King Crimson

Hey, this is an excellent call!

Also in the vein of compilations:

Joy Division
Still
(Factory, 1981)

More like a desert island disc for me.

LOTS of very good recommendations above...

With the passing of Paul Kantner and Signe Anderson, I've been going back through my Jefferson Airplane collection. I used to regularly throw this vinyl on the TT back in the dorm at college. I still find it a very enjoyable listen.

The Very Best of 10cc.

More like a desert island disc for me.

That quip deserves a double "like".

Stevie Ray Vaughan had two GREAT collections, "Greatest Hits" and "Greatest Hit Vol. 2 - the Real Deal". Two CDs crammed full without a clunker to be found. Likewise CCR with "Chronicle" and "Chrocicle 2"

Totally forgot about those CCR albums. Good call.
