The Best Speaker Cable - Wirecutter Review

Interesting read but nothing really new. Interesting that he did not address solid vs stranded and how different Amps / Speakers react differently. It also would have been good to use something different than the Krell 300i, which definitely reacts differently between the two types of cables.

I've been told the same by two engineers from highly regarded speaker companies. However they do not say this in public, because the dealerships which handle their products make a lot of money selling expensive speaker cables and they do not want to jeopardize that relationship.

Also I once attended one of the Stereophile sponsored audio "fests" and found myself riding on a plane next to an engineer from Belden. The big wiring company. He said that Belden manufactures several expensive audiophile cables under contract And that he and his team had had opportunity to test several vs a good grade of 12 gauge zip cord. None of them had ever been able to hear a difference. But they were happy to have the business.

I will admit that I'm not using 12g zip in my main system. I am using an 8g cable with hundreds of oxygen free (which nearly all copper is) tiny wires. It looks very nice, it bends easily, it's semi-transparent so I can see the copper. I do like it. I believe I paid something like $2.50/ft for it. In tests, I could not hear any difference between it and 12g zip, but since I already owned it before those tests and it does look nice, I do like it and use it.
