The Knife Thread.....

I just picked up this one to use for stagehand gigs. It fits perfectly into one of the pockets on my work trousers, and is just right for finger-saving cuts like gaff tape or molton:

Also, I recently got this one repaired - I dropped it on the floor (because stupid, arthritic fingers), and chipped the edge. The edge profile is slightly flatter now, but other than that it's good as new :)

Years ago, I bought a great Spyderco Filet Knife at one of the Outdoor-Fishing Shows.A Japan made Knife. Stainless Steel Blade.

I think I paid $23 for it, but man, what a great knife.

A bit longer than a full size Rapala Knife, rubberized Handle, Plastic Scabbard for the Blade, but I later made a Sheath from Heavy Duty Suede Leather from a brand new Welding Apron.

I showed it to my buddy John, who's probably cleaned more fish in one season in Minnesota, than I'll ever clean in 2 lifetimes. Said it was the best filet knife he ever seen. Thing's as sharp as a Straight Razor, and holds an edge very well. Only once and a blue moon touch it up on the Spyderco Sharpmaker Sticks.

I imagine, when you start talking larger fish, a little knife just isn't working well.

I have a filet knife made by Buck Knives. The blade is a bit too thick for my liking, but it is still a fine knife.

It seems around 2014 or so, ivory, tusk, mammoth(not sure why as they are extinct) are no longer allowed to be sold/resold. Many expensive custom knife handles were made from these materials.

Anyone look into getting new handles made from other materials?

Maybe this warrants its own thread, not sure.

Lots more, of course, but I've already posted bad-ass knucked KBARs, Cole knucked, Gerber MK-II Fighters, OSS smachetes and @ least one of my SOG Fighters. I don't recall having posted this ASSORTMENT of edged goods that includes an EK Fighter, RANDALL Fighter, Aussie Knuck, and LaGana Tomahawk, among other items:

What if y'all could only choose and carry ... TWO?

If choosing from this group photo, I would likely go with that nice Randall (at the bottom of the photo), and the multi-tool at the top right. I could get along quite well with those two....

Top black multi tool and bottom leather handled hunting knife (Buck) with belt sheath. That was fun.

The belt sheath knife is a Randall, which is on Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando. They have a small setup as their workshop and has a wonderful Knife Museum attached. If you love knives, like I do, you will love the Museum. It is small but well stocked with all type and ages of knives, all of which you would like to take home with you.

I own a similar model 3 Randall knife to the one in the picture. Mine, however, is not stainless and has a nice bone handle. The steel is so hard that it is a long term project to sharpen it. Diamond sharpeners are a must. One time many years past, I had gone duck hunting in a small aluminum boat. The next time I wanted to get my Randall, it was not to be found. I had the sheath, but the knife was gone. About three years later I went into the boat to clean the wet leaves and detritus out of it. Lo and behold, my knife had been sitting in the water and rotted leaves in the bottom of the boat. The knife was grungy and heavily stained from rust, but was perfectly fine overall. Enjoy their website. I'm hoping to take my son in law there sometime soon.

I bought mine in 1974. Even back then there was a long wait time. They had a few "blems" in the front cabinet and I bought mine. It has a slightly irregular blade on close inspection but nothing concerning. It cost nothing like the new ones are getting, yet for a guy just out of college and unemployed it was still substantial.
