I came across this thread when I was searching the net for mods for the Presidians. I'm currently using five of these in my HT. I ordered up all the XO parts from Erse Audio along with some Hi-Vi T20-8 tweeters from Madisound to try in place of the stock mylars. Overall I'm very pleased with the sound and I believe that it was money/time well spent. I think that the Hi-Vi's were definitely a step-up over the stock mylars and would recommend them to anyone doing the mod, although it did require me to take the tweeters apart to mount them in the stock faceplate. So I just wanted to say thanks to you guys, particularly Zilch, for a great mod. :thmbsp:

Saw a pair of these at RS today for $10. One was missing the grill, but they look much better without them anyway (kind of like Mordaunt-Short MS 10's). I picked them up because I sensed they might be "something" (and $10 for speakers not at a Thrift Shop is something I rarely see!). Unfortunately though one of the dust caps is pushed in. Tried scotch tape and then a vacuum cleaner -- no luck.

Definitely heard the "underwater" sound from them. Highly considering modding them!

Don't sweat the dust cap. (even though it is annoying!) It shouldn't affect the sound, it just keeps dust out of the voice coil gap.

It DOES affect the sound, of course, but these are Presidians.

Nearly two years ago since we did this, and they're still sitting here with more parts to try in them. Did Minimus 7 over the holidays last year; maybe I'll give these another wrap this year -- there's considerably more mileage yet to accrue from woofer swaps.

I bought some of these for $15 at RS for my work setup--the company was buying, but I'm thrifty and these were well-talked-up, so I went for it.

Sounded perfectly fine in my office, and then, when I bought some nicer vintage ones and put them in there, I decided to take the Presidians home for awhile and see if I could get the kids interested in a small setup in their room. (Didn't take, but they were only 5 and 7 at the time.)

Finally, I neeeded to do a refoam on my Advent Legacy IIs, and use the Presidians in my main system for a week or so. They sounded fine there, too. Then I actually competed the refoam, and A/B'd the two. It was astounding. The Presidians sounded like complete garbage compared to the Advents--I mean, shockingly bad.

I haven't used them since.

Now that I've learned how to use my vacuum cleaner, I did manage to suck it back out. "So that's what that switch is for" applies.
